Army Rangers climb the 100 foot cliff at Point du Hoc 75 years later to commemorate the D-Day soldiers. Few made it because they had no cover and the Germans were able to fire directly on them. Their mission was to locate and destroy a battery of 6 German 155mm cannons.

Sadly, today different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies.

In Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria, boats and men arrive.

When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late?

I'm sure it made some leaders uncomfortable, as it should. Hegseth is a truth teller.

Listening to the annual War Room remembrance of D-Day this morning. The show is about over and the guest is Captain James Fanell....they pivoted to the importance of the victory of Midway in the last 30 minutes.

It was about this time, 82 years ago, that my FIL had landed at Omaha Beach, with the 2nd Rangers, climbed Pointe du Hoc, and later to be involved in Battle of the Hedgerows.

I lived in Roanoke Virginia and used to take the trip to Lynchburg every few weeks, through Bedford Virginia.

Now there is a large monument to the Bedford boys, back then nothing.

The Bedford boys were most of the high school kids in that small rural community. Joined some sort of national guard outfit because they were too young. By Dday they had already reached age and enlisted. Eisenhower decided fresh recruits would be best in the first wave, fearing vets would see the shatstorm, think "here we go again" and hunker down on the beach.

The Bedford Boys were some of the first ones off the boat and 20 died within the first few minutes. One twin survived. Never wanted to interview, but when another group of reporters wanted to hear about Dday with all the Private Ryan whoopla, his daughter asked if he wanted to talk to them. He said no but you can tell them "Freedom aint free" and went back to work in the barn.

What always struck me when you drove down 460 through that hamlet, long before Private Ryan and DDay whoopla.....every house had an American flag flying. Thats the America I remember.

I remember being in town (leesville) with my dad when a bunch of adults got all excited about something and began a long and serious sounding discussion - I was only 6 years old at the time and had no real knowledge of any kind of 'national news' = but I do recall the phrase "water turned red from all the blood" and understood that something big had happened and it had to do with a 'war'. I inferred that the blood was from our soldiers from the tone of the conversation. One of my most vivid memories - concerned that something really bad was happening somewhere.

My dad never talked to me about the war - or much of anything else that didn't involve tasks to be done on the farm. - I was the most ignorant kid on the face of the earth.

The History Channel is running a two part show on D-Day right now.. It is audio recordings of soldiers that were there both American and German soldiers... I don't know of there are real actors that are lip syncing the audio or AI but it is pretty damn good....

Ironically, and tastelessly, the US and Germany are playing a soccer “friendly” on today’s D-Day Anniversary

Amazing how d day was June 6, 1944 and VE day was may 8, 1945. A 2 front war crushed the germans.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, I highly recommend “Pressure”. It’s the story of one of the unsung heroes of D-Day, RAF Group Captain JM Stagg, Ike’s chief meteorologist. Very good movie. I was kind of skeptical of Brendan Fraser as Ike, but he really did a good job.

lots of history in sainte marie du mont and carentan towns also.

the hardest part was not taking the beaches/bunkers. it was fighting the krauts through the hedgerows once they got inland.

And the US team is wearing a jersey celebrating homosexuality and transgenderism.
