We all know that Trump wants to always prove he is right. Look past that. Take out the theatrics. Inflation is more under control now than it was when the FED lowered rates in August. Why doesnt that warrant the FED from lowering rates now?

Goodness. I guess you think if you repeat BS enough, it will turn to truth. Sort of a message board alchemy?

Powell lowered rates under Biden but refuses to do so under Trump.
Trump has only been in office this time for 3 months. And Powell was very direct why the Fed is taking a wait and see approach. He said about 10 days ago in a speech that the uncertainty of the effect of the tariffs on inflation means the policy makers at the Fed want to go slow.

They don't want to drop rates and if the tariffs have the inflationary effect that many economists are expecting, the Fed would have to reverse course and start raising rates again. That kind of whipsaw rate policy always disrupts financial markets.

And I think you may be forgetting that Fed lowered rates during Trump's first term by -1.50% in 2 weeks (March 3, 2020= -.50% and March 16, 2020= -1.00%). It was the biggest, fastest rate decrease by the Fed ever!

Trump cannot legally fire the fed chair

He can ask him to resign

And fwiw, it was trump who nominated Powell in 2017

Also, people thought Powell was trying to help Biden with rate cuts but he didn’t cut rates at the end of Biden’s term which democrats thought was helpful to trump

Trump wants it both ways with potentially inflationary tariffs and uncertainty for businesses while having a strong stock market and investing environment.

The real world doesn't work like that.

Tell tale sign is that, normally (like 95+% of the time historically), a significant correction in equity markets almost always results in a flight to U.S. treasuries. That has not happened over the last 2 - 3 months, and the dollar is getting absolutely destroyed. Instead, capital is fleeing both U.S. equity and bond markets concurrently into currencies viewed as next-best safe havens (Euro, CHF, Yen, etc) and things like gold. The U.S. government is looking like a less trusty lender.

Trump can say whatever the frick he wants, but markets have a brutal and quick way of correcting delusions and incompetence. Unfortunately, the American investor is paying the price right now.

We were slow to react to inflation in 2021 - waiting at least 8 months after every human in the country already knew about it. Then they hiked it too fast as a response.

I don't trust anyone involved in our monetary policy to be ready if we need to make a move in any direction.

So they lowered it before Trump even has a single policy go through. I'm not sure I'm counting that one.

Every year under Trump, real GDP was 2.5% on average, inflation rates held steady and FED rates went up.

Under Biden's in 2024, real GDP was 2.8%. Inflation lowered YOY yet the FED lowered the rates.

What is the main difference here? Its really hard for me to say the FED is playing by the same rules.

FED decisions should be working in tandem with the facts'economy, regardless of who is POTUS. If several factors sway one way, it should warrant higher rates. If they go the other way it should warrant lower rates.

In 2021, the FED was very direct that inflation was transitory.... for 8 months. I know I have read that they are projected to make cuts to lower rates by the end of 2025. That seems like a long "wait and see" approach to me.

You need to learn what "accomodative", "neutral" and "restrictive" means in regards to FED policy.
