Virginia moving to eliminate all accelerated math courses before 11th grade - for 'equity'

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is moving to eliminate all accelerated math options prior to 11th grade, effectively keeping higher-achieving students from advancing as they usually would in the school system.
Loudoun County school board member Ian Serotkin posted about the change via Facebook on Tuesday. According to Serotkin, he learned of the change the night prior during a briefing from staff on the Virginia Mathematics Pathway Initiative (VMPI).
Don't be fooled by the 'differentiated instruction' crap, it means nothing. Advanced students have always been left to fend for themselves or 'teach' their lower-performing classmates. Advanced students have not been the focus of any educational plan for years and it appears that VA will continue to ignore the kids who truly are the future of the country.
The Chinese must be astounded at how easily they're winning this undeclared war.

Va. Tech, UVA, and all the others fixing to make bank on remedial math courses. This state really sucks since Dems got control of both houses and the governor's mansion.

A majority of people in this world are not capable of understanding calculus: so they are going to deny calculus and advanced math to their top math kids. Wow, anti-educAtion.

8th graders will still have the option to take Algebra 1, which is the earliest my junior high allowed kids to take it if I remember correctly.

They're eliminating Pre-Algebra/Algebra in Middle School, then eliminating Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra II in high school.
These classes are being replaced by "Foundational Concepts" classes for 6-10th grade which will allegedly incorporate Algebra, Geometry, Functions, Quantitative Analysis along with more remedial material.
Then I guess they can take Trig, Pre-Cal, and Calculus in 11-12th grade.
