That's the not me. There's no point for me to create an alter just to talk about the same thing I'm already talking about.

People create alters because they don't want what they are talking about to be associated with their main account or because they are trying to avoid a ban. I don't need an alter to talk about tariffs and I'm not avoiding a ban.

Within just three weeks of the new tariffs kicking in on April 2, ocean container bookings from China to the U.S. have dropped by 60 percent across the board. That’s a red flag. We import around $600 billion worth of goods from China every year, and 95 percent of it comes by ocean freight. This kind of disruption isn’t just a hiccup. It could slam the economy with a $2 trillion hit. We’re talking business failures, mass layoffs, and empty shelves by summer. If the tariffs get rolled back too late, we’ll face a bullwhip effect where everyone rushes to restock at once, completely overwhelming the system and sending shipping costs into the stratosphere like we saw in 2021.

Americans need to embrace the fact that globalism held prices artificially low, and everything is going to cost more from now on. If we truly want out of the global system, that's the price we have to pay.

Another thing Americans need to wrap their heads around: It will take years to reshore manufacturing here and the vast majority will be automated (only way to keep prices reasonable is to eliminate labor costs), so there is not going to be a second golden age of union manufacturing jobs. Capitalists who invest in automated factories are going to get wealthier and wealthier, and only STEM workers who design, build, program, and maintain these machines will see a huge uptick in employment opportunities. (Along with trans companies who ship the products). I'm perfectly ok with all of this, but the average American will not be.

Seldem created an alter to post negative crap... and then under this name he put this in that thread.

It got zero attention and now he started a new thread with it.

Of course CEO of retailers selling China imports are concerned about taxing consumer goods from China. It may cut into their margins and that is a big concern for shareholders. Shareholders are the CEO's number one customer.

frick them. Their drive to the bottom in pricing has consequences.. cheap, single use items derived from below market labor. Their model needs adjusting in America.

A few years ago I met a guy that was manufacturing in China and his primary, possibly only customer was Wal Mart. Wal Mart was pushing him to move manufacturing to other countries and this was 2 to 3 years ago.

I found the conversation interesting and having seen what has happened since then, even more fascinating that Wal Mart has been pushing to at least diversify their manufacturer's production out of a central location.

I truly believe this is why you will never one up the rich. Politicians are reactionary and the successful elite are proactive as well as reactionary. And there is nothing wrong with that.
