I’ve seen numerous folks on this thread say the educational benefits of Head Start diminish after third grade. That sounds more like Head Start was more beneficial than the public schools they go to after Head Start

You’ve mentioned the socialization aspect but they could get that in any daycare/preschool. It just wouldn’t be free to you.

Lolololol

You think Head Start has a lifelong impact on self-esteem?

You’re not a serious person.

That’s what I would say if I wanted to avoid obvious conclusions.

Maybe because you are the unicorn parent of kids in this program.

But that is your personal story. Step back and look at the bigger picture. Look at the overall education levels of the kids who have gone through Head Start. Just like the DOE it is not doing what it is supposed to do. And we should not keep a glorified federal day care subsidy around just because your kids benefited.

That probably says more about you than Head Start.

You clearly don’t know anything about child development or the most formative years of a person’s life. But go on. Keep being a smug shithead and don’t you dare learn anything else ever again as long as you live. You already know everything.

This doesn't seem to be a smart or thoughtful cut

Head start is just another in a long line of failed good-intention programs. It has had no effect on the education outcomes of its participants.

It should have been cut long ago.

Great leadership from Trump.

In 2005, the first report about the Head Start Impact Study found that one year of Head Start improved cognitive skills, but the size of the effects was small. While this first report affirmed Head Start’s impact on school readiness, the final HHS report published in 2010 showed that by the end of first grade, the effects mostly faded out. According to the 2012 HHS report on third grade follow-up, by the end of primary school there was no longer a discernible impact of Head Start. Due in part to these reports, some have concluded that while Head Start has some initial impact on kindergarten readiness, the fadeout in impact over early elementary school qualifies attempts to invest more in early childhood education.

And you can get those same results without Head Start. So why waste money on Head Start?

You do realize low income folks get access to free daycare right? Federally or state run daycare is a nothing more than a free baby sitter. At least with Head Start there is an educational and healthcare component

I have had numerous foster kids attend Head Start and it’s always been beneficial to every one of them.

By what metric?

They felt better about themselves? You felt better about them?

Everyone loves a feel good program where everyone pat each other on the back and say: "what an accomplishment!".
