Charlie Kirk

Something to refresh your memory on a wonderful Friday

Highlights:

- 13/13 colonies required a declaration of faith
- 55/56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were Christian
- Common law is an outgrowth of scripture
- God is mentioned 4 times in the Declaration and the last paragraph reads as a prayer
- John Adams stated the Constitution was only written for moral and religious people
- The Book of Deuteronomy was the most quoted book religious or non religious during the time of our founding
- The separation of Church and State was not in the Constitution. Founders were most worried about one single religion taking over government such as the Quakers, etc.

It’s trendy now for the left to re-write history. Both biblical, as well as geopolitical. Whatever feels good and works for their cause.

Well, if it was, it's not anymore. Christianity in the western sense is slowly shrinking.

Shrinking isn’t dying. I wouldn’t be surprised if the pendulum swung back a little towards Christianity, as well. Materialism is a shite explanation for life and living. Some people are figuring that out.

I think it will swing back from time to time. But, you're right ... the correct word is "shrinking".

Trump is definitely not a Christian. Just tells everyone he is. His god is mostly money.

Personally, I don't care as long as he gets the job done.

His religion honestly, is none of my business.

The more we learn about archeology, science, history, geography, space, humanity and morality, the more we see the Bible is true and Jesus is Lord. It’s not the opposite.

It’s truly amazing.

Why did the constitution then do away with the required declarations of faith? Seems like they made a choice....

How so?

But then they immediately added it to ensure it was enshrined. Without the first amendment there is no constitutional agreement at the convention....

Freedom of religion isn’t anything close to our modern definition of “separation of church and state.” You glossed right over that, fig.

Because they wanted the next 250 years here to be less conflictual and bloody than the 250 years prior in Europe between Catholics and Protestants and lo and behold it has. Religious toleration serves us well.

The first Amendment is not in conflict with America as a Christian nation.

I support Joseph Story's view as summarized below. He was a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

quote:

In his Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), Justice Joseph Story argued that the state has a legitimate interest in supporting Christianity as a foundation for moral and civic order, given its historical and cultural dominance in the United States and its perceived compatibility with republican government. When discussing the state's role in religion, Story suggested that while the state should protect the free exercise of all religions, it was not obligated to grant equal public support or deference to non-Christian religions like Islam or Judaism in the same way it supported Christianity. By stating that the state need not "prostrate itself" to Islam or Judaism, Story meant that the government was not required to elevate these religions to the same level of official encouragement or institutional preference as Christianity, which he viewed as uniquely intertwined with the nation's legal and social fabric.

They tend to do this. They conflate freedom OF religion with freedom FROM religion.

Religious wars are very stupid wars. Nothing gets accomplished with them. Probably the stupidest of all wars.

Did you know that the Founders of the Constitution, ordered a printing Press from Europe for the purpose of printing enough copies of the Bible to put in every classroom.

Many of the original settlers left Europe for Religious Freedom.

I have no issue with that.

Even if people have no religion or are not Christians, the Bible is not a bad thing to have readily available. For anyone.

America was founded on Judeo-Christian values by men who believed in freedom of religion.

Many of the founding fathers believed in a higher power/God but weren't necessarily "Christian"

Thomas Jefferson
Benjamin Franklin
James Madison
John Adams
Thomas Paine
