Why did President Trump choose Jerome Powell as Fed Chair in 2017?

Back then Trump said that Powell would provide “strong, sound and steady leadership” at the Federal Reserve. Now Trump and Powell are completely at odds and Trump wants him out.
Was this an example (one of many, unfortunately) of Trump following bad advice regarding political appointments during his first term?

Trump’s picks during his first term were disastrous almost across the board.

8 years is plenty of time for someone in an unelected position to be corrupted or change sides. Especially with all that has happened since then.

Rookie mistakes.
He's much better this go around.

Idk kinda fits what Powell is doing. He's sticking to his guns and doing what he thinks is right. We can all debate if it is or not but hes been predictable, and steady. Maybe some feel he's predictably late...
I think a weak leader would play more politics and cave to trump here to keep his appointment next year.

I think in the first term Trump had people to temper his impulsivity. Doesn't seem to be the case now. Once he latches on to an idea, good or bad, he doesn't want to let it go.
The tariffs were stupid, Trump wants Powell's help cleaning up the mess but Powell can't do it right away without spiking inflation.
But no one is now telling him that Powell is handcuffed. So you get truth social outbursts etc.

In my objective opinion, absolutely.

This is incredibly false.
Trump actually likes to have people around him who disagree with him and he listens.
It’s been something repeated by many who have worked for him.
It’s never good to have “yes men”.

He did have some bad hires in very prominent, very high-level positions.
Tillerson - Secretary of State
Mattis - Secretary of Defense
Sessions - Attorney General
Preibus - Chief of Staff
Kelly - Chief or Staff
Bolton - National Security Advisor
Haley - Ambassador to the UN
I think that he has made better hires in his second term. I think he has chosen people that he can have better working relationships with. That said, Powell definitely seems like another mistake from the first term, at least if you agree with the economic policies and actions of Trump in his second term.

Face it, Trump made some horrific picks his first term. Hopefully he has learned.

Why did Alabama hire Nick Saban years ago and he ended his coaching career as a somewhat mediocre coach?
People change over time
What a stupid fricking question

Left is evil and will find any skeleton to corrupt an individual. The devils temptation of Jesus might pail compared to the techniques of the left.

Same reason he chose Marla and Ivana.

Do we honestly believe this though? I mean he fired T Jags because they didnt agree with him. He reportedly wants to fire Powell because he doesnt agree with him. If we have learned one thing about the people in this admin, they will tell you what you want to hear....which isn't always the truth
