WSJ: China’s Huawei has developed a new AI chip seeking to match Nvidia

This comes just weeks after the U.S. restricted Nvidia’s H20 chip sales to China. Seems like China has been preparing for these scenarios and is looking to dominate their domestic chip market with Huawei
"China’s Huawei Technologies Co. is getting ready to test a new and powerful artificial intelligence processor that the company hopes can replace some products made by US-based Nvidia Corp., the Wall Street Journal reported.
The progress by the Shenzhen-based networking and electronics leader shows the resilience of China’s semiconductor industry in the face of efforts by the Trump administration to stymie it, including by blocking access to some Western chip-making equipment, the newspaper said on Sunday."

Translation: Chinese company stole the IP from the NVIDIA chip and rebranded it as another brand that they own.

In this situation that would not be possible. You need the EUV Lithography machines that ASML has to produce the NVIDIA chips. Huawei is rumored to be testing their own EUV lithography machine that uses different technology than ASML’s machine but that's not supposed to be ready until 2026. Right now it seems China is making these chips with older DUV machines that they tweaked to produce 5nm chips

I've seen several commentators - mostly libertarian/economist types - making the claim that cutting China off actually puts their innovation apparatus into hyperdrive. It actually does make sense.

It wasn’t theirs.
China doesn’t develop anything.
IP theft is a state run affair…literally.

Incorrect. China's EUV lithography machine uses technology that is totally different than ASML’s EUV lithography machine. They have patents on their LDP approach
"If this is real it will be China surpassing on semi instead of catching up. Based on this video, China's 3nm EUV lithography machine will start trial production in the third quarter and mass production in 2026. The 3nm EUV lithography machine was developed by Huawei by integrating technologies from related domestic units. The equipment is located at Huawei's Songshan Lake base. China's lithography machine technology route uses LDP high-voltage discharge tin vapor luminescence technology, which is a brand-new technology route and has been patented. This is different from the LPP laser tinning solution that ASML (ASM) of the Netherlands has been using for nearly 20 years. The Chinese solution is smaller in size, consumes less energy and is more efficient. Incredible."

"has developed" <> "getting ready to test"
They might follow through and develop it but they have not yet because they wouldn't need to test it.

China reverse engineered NVDAs chip, shocker

Irrelevant.
They stole the tech from someone else, we just don’t know who yet.

China doing Chinese things.....stolen IP for sure.

It is kinda hard to steal technology that does not exist. No other country has LDP EUV lithography machines. If this turns out to be true China will have the only LDP EUV lithography machines. ASML uses LPP EUV lithography machines. So if no other country/company has the machines/technology who did they steal it from?

That you are aware of.
You are not omniscient.
China steals IP. It is what they do.

The technology exists, it is avoided by the main industry players because of questionable efficacy, this is mostly Chinese propaganda, as usual, just like China's lead in AI

Sure... whatever the Wall Street Journal reports is fair and unbiased! Lol
The WSJ hates Trump. All the MSM propaganda machine is every bit as critical of Trump as the state run media in Russia, China, Iran, and every other shithole country.

China lies and steals just like your Russian masters. It’s time for Americans to fight back against our enemies. China Russia North Korea and Iran. The 4 horsemen of shithole criminal countries.
