I really enjoyed Chasing the Game and also the book Soccernomics. Chasing the Game is a history of US soccer and our quest to no longer be an afterthought in world soccer. I learned from that book that Tim Howard’s idol growing up was LSU’s own Chris Jackson, because they both played basketball and had Tourette’s.

Miracle of Castel di Sangro is a book by a famous American political writer who wrote The Selling of the US Presidency and a book about the OJ Simpson trial.

He moved to Italy for a year in the mid 90s knowing relatively little about soccer and followed a team around that had just gotten promoted to Serie B. It was basically a village team owned by a guy in the mafia that ended up playing against real teams.

The team ended up signing a handful of well-known players as well. All I’ll say is it was a very eventful year.

Actually it is fairly old (1993) - Written by a guy originally from Baton Rouge who was interested in the Hooligans in England. Became a member of a group of "supporters" and travelled to some away games.

It's still a great glimpse into that era.

“A Life to Short”

It’s a book that’s more on the personal level as it’s about the life/death of German goalie, Robert Enke, who committed suicide during his playing career.

The Club is also pretty much the story of what’s happening in college sports now.
