Get in here and educate us all on the pros/cons of Gregggg this WC, and why he deserves to be the USMNT coach continuing.

I don't think anyone thinks he should be coaching next cycle. I don't think anyone thought that before hand either. I know at least I didn't.

I do think he was a net positive for the program considering where it was and I hope whoever takes over for him doesn't tear down all he did from a team-building aspect. Just need someone that has us play more ruthless in front of goal.

He is Mark Richt. We gotta find Kirby to get us over the hump.

"the on the net?"

From a results standpoint: Beat Mexico three times, including 2 trophies. The trophies aren't important, but beating Mexico for those trophies are. Before that Nations League win, the last time we beat Mexico in a competitive match, Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson scored. Got out of the group in the World Cup, when most people (yourself included) thought we'd be lucky to get more than one point.

From a non-results standpoint: He did a really good job in reestablishing the brotherhood of the national team, something that Jurgen did a great job at destroying and Bruce didn't do much better. These dudes love playing for the national team more than playing for their clubs. That is important considering they will be the face of the program for this past cycle and the next one as well.

I was frustrated with a lot of shite, but I'm not going to act like Gregg was a failure.

Is Jesse Marsch a lead candidate for 2026?

Very curious what happens next

I doubt it, because that would mean he got fired from Leeds and, if that's the case, why would we want that?

Regardless, I'm not sold on Jesse as a coach beyond him being a good motivator for the plucky underdog. Like Gregg, he runs a very specific system that doesn't really get the most out of the attack.

I am curious what happens though, because there really is not any obvious candidates out there at the moment. It does worry me that they could fall back to Gregg for another cycle, which like when he was originally hired, would be incredibly underwhelming only this time for different reasons.

Roberto Martinez? idk.

I think round of 16 was a reasonable expectation for this cycle, and I think Gregg wants to keep the job and will keep the job.

I don’t have much to add to this post and broski’s other one below it. Echoes my thoughts perfectly tbh. Is GGG the world’s best tactician? No. Has he been a good manager for the USMNT? Unequivocally yes. He guided our youngest ever team to a lot of regional success and a solid showing at the WC, created a true brotherhood mentality of guys who fight tooth and nail for one another, and convinced key dual nationals to commit their long term futures to us. I do think we should thank him for his contributions and move on to someone who can maybe inject some new ideas, especially in the final third, and really elevate this team’s game.

ETA: I tried to be thoughtful here. If you’re going to DV at least tell me why you disagree.

One more point for the net positive thing:

Yunus Musah and Sergino Dest are really fricking good.

You don't think he would leave Leeds on his own if offered the USMNT job?

Not if he ever has aspirations of coaching in top Europe leagues again.

Haven’t checked the other threads but has there been discussion on JF’s play?

No response to the measured responses your post asked for?

Jesus Ferreira sucked. Gregg rightfully took him off at halftime.

Does having a Front line of Pulisic, Weah, and Reyna stop those two first half goals? I don't think so.

Don’t really need to since I got measured responses.

Fair enough.

I'll toss my opinion in there, which largely echoes what's been said.

Gregg helped bring us back from purgatory. He made mistakes here and there, but making mistakes is part of the process of finding out what you have.

As far as the roster selection goes, the only nit to be picked is with the 9's. But even then, he was choosing between a bunch of dudes that are ok players. None of these guys were going to win us a game. Leaving Pepi out surprised me, because he was seemingly in form, but I don't think Pepi was going to be the difference against the Netherlands.

Tactically, he had a bright moment against England, but I think he got worked by Van Gaal.

All in all, I like Gregg, but let's move on. I think USMNT should be a one-cycle job.

Yeah, if only we had a different manager we’d win all the world cups!
