Tactically, CP probably should have come off. He doesn’t have the strength to hold that ball up, and offers very little defensively. Or we don’t go to a back 5 and CP can play up top with Flo and it probably looks a lot different.

No CP is still your most dangerous guy especially on the counter. You need him out there. Going from 4 to 3 in midfield was incredibly stupid

We should have parked the bus and countered the rest of the game, and they still couldn’t execute that

There was no need to bunker down so early Reyna should have stayed on What does johnny bring?

I love that these posts were back to back

Johnny was poor today. I think taking off Gio was a mistake. I wish we had done a 4-4-1 but we were conceding so many crosses that having an extra defender didn’t seem like a terrible idea… but CCV was bad.

He created our best scoring opportunities in the second half though.

No, but just suspending him for the rest of the tournament as others are suggesting is asinine

Our “rest of the tournament” is one game which he won’t play in, if we beat the Copa co-record holders and arguably one of the best teams in the tournament without Weah, and his sub impacts the game in any way…you think we should bring him back?! frick that.. he gone…

Yes it solved one problem but creates 3 more. You had 3 midfielders and 1 was a winger. You also had very little of anything going forward. So for 45 minutes you sad as deep as possible and hoped they didn’t score. Going to a back 5 was stupid. Taking off Flo was stupid. Not leaving Gio on the field was stupid. Not using Musah when you went to a midfield 3 where Adams and Gio were coming off was stupid. There were a lot of problems with the tactics.

Yeah, because you need depth to compete in a tournament

Weston bossing their whole team and sitting Pepi on a silver player was CP?

Taking him off wouldn’t be ideal. But if you were going to defend for 45 minutes, CP playing midfield was incredibly stupid. Playing him as the top of the 5-3-1 would have been better. But still not ideal because if we won a turnover, CP can’t play back to goal and hold up the ball. That isn’t his game at all.

Staying in a 4-4-1 where he could be a wide midfielder would have been better.

But him in the midfield was stupid.

Completely agree, what you don’t need is a moron doing something stupid 18 minutes in to an important group stage game, completely changing the entire game moving forward.

I hate Greg as much as anyone and obviously want him gone, HOWEVER we aren’t having any of these conversations right now if Weah doesn’t completely lose his mind. It’s incredibly hard to play a man down for 75+ minutes, no matter who you are playing.
Pray Uruguay crushes Bolivia and rests some starters.

Question. When Real Madrid goes a man down be Cadiz or City vs Burnley, do they bunker and play for the draw? At home.

Yes, 3 wins against top 20 teams. I believe 2 are against Mexico and the other is against Iran.

That’s pitiful. Mexico is in shambles and the other country was named after a Flock of Seagulls song.

that’s chickenshit. it’s fricking Panama. our inability to hold onto the ball for longer than a minute the entire second half says one of two things

1) our roster is worse than 1998

2) the manager is a frickhead

both can be true, but my gut says one is glaring

I can’t really pin this loss on Gregg and Broski can testify that I’m his biggest hater.

you can justify hooking Reyna? and putting Pepi out there? yeah, Weah set the house on fire, but even a man down we should be able to string more than a long ball and one 50/50 together. middling attitude for a middling nation

We were dominating the game until Weah lost his head.

Have you ever played 11v10? It fricking sucks. Doing it for an entire game is almost an automatic L.

Hypothetical...

If Dest plays, we win this game.

*No disrespect to Sally, dude has played lights out defensively.

yeah it sucks, and it’s hard on your legs, and not a single one of those 11 on the other side would start for ours. and you’re gifted a lead 4 minutes after the card. not getting a result from tonight is inexcusable no matter how you slice it
