Another AT&T Fiber vs. Cox Internet in Baton Rouge thread

My Cox bill has gotten too high, and I haven’t found a worthwhile solution through them (and I’m tired of “renegotiating” every year or so). It’s just gone over $250 for a bundle of 150 Mbps internet, landline I don’t even have connected, and Contour cable with the sports package and whatever general basic expanded package they have.
I’m planning to go to an internet only plan, and they’re quoting me $138 for either 150 or 300 Mbps “unlimited” data (currently paying $75 for 150 Mbps internet portion of my bundle, but am ditching the landline and cable for alternatives).
I can get AT&T Fiber 300 for only $50. After reading some of the threads on here it seems Cox is the preferred consensus.
Is AT&T Fiber internet bad? Is AT&T as a company THAT bad? I’ve had my mobile with them for years, and have never had any significant concerns, but it seems people on here despise them.

Change to fiber. You will love it. That is way too good of a deal to pass up. I wouldn't think twice about that.

Pretty sure this is compared to DSL. Fiber is much better than anything Cox has.

Idk who is shitting on ATT fiber. I have 100 Mbps and it's constantly 120 Mbps over WiFi. I think I've had to reboot the router once in 2 years.

Been considering switching to AT&T GB too. It's been available for awhile now in our neighborhood. I've just been dragging my feet.

I have cox fiber for $89 a month.
Here is the real issue. Whether you switch or not, this price will go up every year without fail. ATT is no different
Is your rate an internet only rate? The best “contracted” rate Cox would give me for 150 (unlimited data) was $138 and would go up to at least $160. The rate for AT&T 300 will be $50 for a year, and then only goes up to $80 (or possibly less with their auto-pay discounts). And, oh yeah, they also threw in free installation and a $100 Visa.
I understand that costs change. I’ve been with Cox for 20 years now, and they more recently can not seem to give me what I feel is a reasonable cost for my fairly standard package.
Regardless of cost changes, I’ll be paying 1/3 to 1/2 for double the speed of what Cox had to offer, thus my reason to ask opinions of the AT&T fiber/service. I could’ve even done the gigabit option for $70 (changes to $100) but don’t feel I need it.
This isn’t about nickel and diming to switch back and forth every year or two, it’s about finding quality service that I can stick with over time and not feel like I’m being taken advantage of. I also thought others may benefit from an updated thread since all the ones I found were seemingly steering me away from AT&T. In fact there were two negative ones on the first page of this board when I got on this AM.
With the changes I’ve made recently to my internet, cable, and phone that will be of equal or improved services, I’ll be saving at least $175 per month which is $2100 in just one year. I’m not going bare bones, only refining what I currently have in addition to doubling internet speed.
I hope this helps others in a similar situation.

Unlimited data is 50 a month thru Cox. I pay 85 a month and use about 400-700 gb of data a month. Do you really need unlimited? Keep in mind that introductory price thru Att will skyrocket after the initial rate term expires.

I don’t like to worry about crossing a 1TB threshold, I like simple and unlimited is simple. See my post above yours that addresses the prices I was given.
Apparently new customers are way more valuable than existing, and I didn’t feel like doing a cancellation/re-signing to get a different rate. They should just offer a fair rate and quit playing games.
ETA: Regarding unlimited data...the Cox 150 rate for the 1TB data threshold was only $130 vs $137 for the promo period, there would be a larger delta once the rate expired though. Either way the AT&T 300 is a way better deal both before and after promo rates are up.

You can also get ATT fiber through a reseller.

Here is my breakdown/experience (NOLA not BR)
Both Cox & AT&T suck as companies. Cox internet is light years better than anything AT&T offers, other than Fiber. Fiber is better than Cox's plans.
You may want to see if you can get a package deal with the mobile & Fiber. Don't know if that was only offered to me because I'm w/ Verizon; but it's worth the ask.

I love my ATT 1000 and it’s reliable as hell but I wish I could use my own modem and router.

I'll say this. I have a 150 MB plan with Cox. And it's a very reliable connection. I never have issues with it. As much as I would love AT&T fiber, the Cox connection has never gone down or given me any issues. And we constantly use the internet at my house. Constantly. I can't afford a low quality internet connection, my wife and kids would lose their minds

I’ve read it is more difficult than just putting it pass through.

This is fast enough for me, Cox 300mb
