Any advantage with using Firestick over apps directly from smart TV?

Other than choice of operating system, is there any advantages? I.E. faster speeds, better performance. etc...

only if there is some issue with your TV apps. The TV apps in general are going to provide the best video quality as there is no medium between the stream processing and your TV output. Sometimes audio can be sacrificed in TV apps.
If your TV apps work, no reason not to use them. Going to a 3rd party device can help with:
- Speed/responsiveness as TV smart platforms can be slow
- Video or audio quality if the TV's apps are limited
- Increased audio via being able to connect directly to an AVR
- more apps to choose from

Not necessarily the fault of Roku but frame rate matching, Atmos and HDR functionality are constantly broken on many different services and they cant do both integer and non-integer framerates.

Biggest advantage is the availability of different apps. Most SmartTVs will not have a full spectrum of apps.
IMO, 2nd will be when the TV starts aging will it be able to keep up with the updates.
Not sure if it's the TV, but I know there have been times when my TV would not play some of the LSU baseball games (twice this year) through the ESPN app, but I can load them on my phone and cast them to the TV. Then the next game works perfectly fine on the TV.

I use Roku on all the TVs in my house because the interface is always the same. I don't have family members ask me how to do something on any particular TV because all of them are the same. I find it makes my life easier.

The fire remotes are way better imo. I've found the TV apps and interfaces to be clunky and cumbersome. Fire cube and stick just seem to work plus you can install apps like smart tube

Yup,
firestick hardware will be updated over time. Its easier to swap a stick than an entire TV.

The weird thing with fire remotes are the volume lags behind. It works perfectly fine for changing channels and turning off and on, but when you try to turn the volume up or down it takes a few seconds for it to do it.

The TV apps start to turn to shite over time
I’d use them while they are working great

The TV remotes and lag time when pressing buttons suck. Also scrolling and typing in words for search, log ins, etc. The Firestick is more user-friendly and smoother IMO

I find the firestick 4k faster than the native LG apps. Ookla has it more than 50% faster.

Last summer we bought a Sony 50" that includes the Google Play Store and can add apps to the TV. We use that and works well 95% of the time. I always have a problem with ESPN once a month but that has been a problem with my firesticks for the last 5 years too.
Overall I'm pleased with my Sony and app functionality. If you plan to upgrade I suggest a setup similar.
