AT&T Fiber vs. Cox Internet

Thinking of switching my AT&T fiber internet for Cox internet service. I currently have AT&T fiber but thinking of switching to Cox (non-fiber). If I'll only be getting 250 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload speed, would this be sufficient if I only have a couple laptops and cell phones, two security cameras, and two streaming TVs? I'm downgrading my 1000 Mbps since I think it's overkill.

Don't do it

Stay with fiber. We have cox fiber and it is far superior to ATT uverse and cox cable internet. Honestly, if I couldn't get cox fiber I would use Tmobile 5G home over the other options...

We kicked Cox to the curb for both tv and internet- it was about $300/month for both.
Att fiber is about $85 and you tubetv is $65.

just downgrade your fibre plan if $100 for Gb is too much

Call AT&T and ask if they can do anything about the amount you are paying.
I have 1 Gig fiber from AT&T was paying about $95/month after taxes and fees.
I called to ask about the bill and the lady I was speaking to changed my bill from $95 to $65/month permanently (not a promotional period that expires) and sent me a $100 gift card to "thank me for being a customer".
or as another poster said, you can downgrade your AT&T fiber. Think 500 MB is only $50/month.

I went from at&t 1Gbps fiber to Xfinity 50/10 Mbps as it was $20/mo compared to $80/mo for the fiber.
My family of 5 had no issues at all. 3 kids homeschooled, stay at home wife and I work from home. The upload limit is a bit cumbersome if you upload large files at all but that only impacted me. Nobody in the family ever noticed the change.

the best at&t will do these days is 300/300 for $55/mo if you use autopay. $60/mo if you dont.

That speed would be sufficient, but you will also notice the Cox internet is not as reliable as AT&T Fiber. So, while you will be paying for the 250/10, you will have times where your speeds are under 100. And if you are using the Wi-Fi and are not close to the router or hot-spot; there will be another drastic drop in speed.
I have Cox's Gig plan (no fiber in my area), and even though I should be getting 1,000 down; I am lucky to stay over 500 in the den (which is plenty), and rarely have over 75 in the master bedroom (~50' from router).

At&t fiber is unlimited internet for the same price for essentially same speeds as Cox. And with Cox you get the benefit of paying an extra $50/month if you want unlimited data.
At&t is also equal download and upload speeds. Cox is fast download and slow as shite upload.
0 reason to switch to Cox until they remove that fricking unlimited fee.

Switch to Cox only if you want your internet to cut in and out about 3 times a week.

having been 'stuck' with comcast since 1997 until 2022, i would NEVER EVER EVER go back to comcast from att fiber.
the only downside is the modem/router combo you're forced to use with ATT. there are some hacks to spoof it and use your own router but that is always a pain in the arse to keep up with long term.
there is also a pass-through option but again, att should allow you to set up your own router/mesh network if you so choose and not be forced into using their crummy hardware and UX.

yes. Almost upgraded to 2g just to get the new gateway and see if it's any better.

That has nothing to do with the Cox Service and everything to do with Wifi Signal

Passthrough does allow you to use your own hardware and you never have to deal with At&t's equipment.

I left Cox for ATT Fiber. I would never, ever go back.

Just moved and choose att 1gig fiber over comcast. $80 month with no contract, no equipment to rent, and $150 visa gift card.
