I bought a few outdoor cameras in October and just received an email that my free subscription was about to expire. I wasn’t even aware that I had one.

I have the Sync Module 2. Do I need a subscription to be able to view old clips, see live clips etc?

Thanks

Check out Wyze. No subscription required, but there is one for added features. I've been pretty happy with the three I have.

Thanks but I already have two blink cams. I’ve been happy so far except for this potential need for a subscription.

Even after reading up on the Sync Module 2, I'm still not entirely sure how it will work with and without a subscription. I think it's a legit question.

Thanks. That is the confusing part. It takes a USB for storage. I was hoping that someone who has this brand could make it more clear. I think Amazon’s goal is to confuse and get subscribers.

The first review of the Module 2 kind of lays it out.

quote:

“Heidi from Blink” is not helpful- in fact, the way she chooses to ignore the questions when she provides her “almost answers” makes her pretty much anti-helpful. This Sync 2 Module will get a backup file of content generated by your camera once daily. It is not possible to just have the Sync Module do all the recording and leave the cloud connection out of it. No matter what, whether you want it to or not, your recordings will involve transport through the cloud and will then at an unknown and uncontrollable time- maybe probably eventually might end up on the flash drive you have plugged into the sync module. There’s nothing in the Blink app that lets you choose to only save locally nor is there a way to know when or to change when the cloud recording is sent to the flash drive. This module has not one thing in the world to do with motion detection, night vision or WiFi signal so why star ratings are REQUIRED for this item in those dimensions is ridiculous!

I'm sure you can view old recordings since they've been downloaded, but no way to avoid saving in the cloud first.

Thanks. I dug a little deeper. I think I can retrieve them from the USB storage through the app. I’m currently cloud based without a usb attached to the module. This is a fairly new update within the last few months. According to a YouTube video the cloud was not subscription based until April 2020 which is why it probably didn’t pop up on my radar when I purchased. I remember reading reviews and they didn’t mention it.

That's annoying but not entirely unexpected. They got a lot of users to buy into their ecosystem because it was entirely free.
