Brother Laser Printer - Firmware Update or Not?

Bought a Brother laser printer last week. It's the HL-L2395DW model. Well, it's saying it's needing a firmware update, but I'm hesitant to do so.
In the past, I had an HP printer and one of their firmware updates fricked up me using aftermarket printer heads.
Does Brother do the same shady crap as HP on their firmware updates, or is it a legitimate update that won't get into my back pocket somewhere down the road?

I imagine this is exactly what they do
On this note, is there a secondary market for older printers that still accept aftermarket ink?

I have had a number of Brother printers over the years. Both inkjet and laser. I have never had a firmware update that prevented me from using aftermarket ink or toner. Having said that, I'd still go with what Cad said above. I don't trust any corporation these days.

2nd, 3rd, 4th.. whatever number.. if it's doing what's expected leave it be.
Unless you have the time to read through the changelogs (and hope they are accurate) looking for a particular feature to be added or fixed.
