Pulled the trigger earlier this week opting for AT&T 1 Gb internet fiber.
An 8 hr Cox outage last weekend was the nudge.
All is working well and it's much faster than the Cox purported 1 gig speed.
Went with the ATT gateway and the Deco mesh - Netgear switch plugged in without any problems.

Yup. I've had ATT Fiber for a few years now, and to my knowledge, there has never been a minute of downtown, including during/after Ida. These threads are the only time I remember that I ever used to deal with internet outages at home

Price has been rock solid too the whole time we’ve had it.

Not sure what you were waiting for. The day AT&T dropped on our street I signed up (got HBO max for free) and never looked back. Did not even go down for Ida

Yep and I didn't wait either. AT&T just finished running the fiber last month in our area and the week before last I received an email regarding the availability, cost, etc. Last Saturday Cox chose to have another outage and I scheduled the installation that day for Tuesday. The installation went smoothly and the tech stated I and our neighbor were the first two installations, respectively, in the area.

Lucky you? Started at 50$ a month for 1gig service here in Nola about 2019. It’s now 80$.

I swapped to T-Mobile and haven’t looked back.
frick ATT twice over.

Same here. If it goes down, that means some jackass cut fiber somewhere. Cox used to go down regularly for me.

Was $50 your actual rate, or was it a special introductory rate with an already defined higher rate you would pay after the first year?

$80mo for 1g up and 1g down with no data cap...?

I'll pay that every month and twice on Sunday.

I have nothing but glowing reviews since I switched. I hit 5tb data last month. That would have cost me an arm and leg with comcast.

Fiber not even breaking a sweat.

We had it available for years before we switched. Cox was very reliable for us, so I was hesitant to switch because I work from home a lot, but I talked to a neighbor that had it and decided it was worth it when bundled with our cell phones.

No issues in the year we've had it and wish I'd done it sooner. I will say their gateway sucked as a wireless router so I went back to Google Wifi.

ATT gets a bad name in this area, I think it's mostly from their crappy arse DSL customers.

I'm on year 10 or so, and the only outage I've ever had was some DNS problems that were global for a day. Switched to openDNS and it was fixed in 5 minutes. So we're at 99.99999% uptime or so for me in AR.

74.99 with autopay. I do like 10tb/month and have for years and years, they've never said a word.

I check several times a year when they’ll drop in my neighborhood. The part that pisses me off is my neighbors behind me all have fiber but it’s not on my street yet.

which just goes to underscore how arbitrary and shitty frickcast and cox are with the data cap bullshite.

They're creating a fake narrative around data scarcity to punish people who don't subscribe to their shite hole TV service.

You will not be disappointed with the switch. Have had AT&T fiber for 6 years and it has gone out twice. I have had to deal with their Customer service only twice in that time frame as well. Locked in at 77 a month for last 3 years so not to bad for great internet.

Do you have to use ATT's equipment or is there a list of compliant modems I can purchase myself?

I am currently with Cox and have a nighthawk router and Arris Surfboard modem. I'd assume I'd need new equipment with ATT?

I'm supposed to have 250mbps speed, but it fluctuates as low as 40 sometimes and I'm getting tired of dealing with it and seriously considering the switch to ATT. However, I do have a nice 2 year locked in rate of $45/month with Cox, so not sure if it's actually worth the increased cost to switch

You have to use their gateway, you can put it in bridge mode to use your nighthawk but that's the best you can do.

with the ATT fiber you'll get consistent 375Mbps up/down at $55/mo. Latency might be better, same or worse but it will be more consistent.

You should be able to get about $150-200 in rewards when you order at&t fiber.

Your nighthawk router will work fine but the at&t WiFi6 gateway might be better. Unless you need custom DNS options, try the at&t BGW320 gateway w/out your own equipment first.
