Good Speaker Deal: Revel Concerta2 M16 $285 each

There are two catches, the price is only good for the white version and they are back ordered currently but I am 99% sure they honor the price but you could call Crutchfield to verify. Normally $990 a pair.

This is one of my absolute favorite speakers under $1k and under $600 makes them a steal. 86dB sensitivity and 6 ohm nominal means they are not the easiest speaker to drive but when I had a pair I was able to run them fine off a decent AVR.
Here is a review from Amir on ASR with Klippel Near Field Scanner data.

Revel makes really good speakers. This is a fantastic buy for an apsiring audiophile.
As noted you will need solid amplifier to drive them. My little Dynaudios are 6 ohm speakers and I'm pushing over 300 wpc into them which they drive with ease.

What are you driving the Dynaudio speakers with? I have a pair of Special 40s being driven by an 8WPC 6L6 tube amp. Sounds great but I need something with a bit more power.

I have Special 40’s as well and love them. Those little speakers perform way beyond their size.
I’m using an NAD Master Series M33
It’s a sexy piece and performs really well.

Interesting combination.
I have a love/hate relationship with the Special 40s. I am a sucker for laser imaging and frankly, it is my personal favorite speaker trait. I can put up with a lot of other faults when a speaker images like an 11th/12th generation KEF or a narrow baffled Totem Audio speaker. The S40's dome tweeter on a flat baffle usually means wide dispersion/wide soundstage but lacking in image focus but the engineers bent that rule of physics.
The Special 40 has one of the few traits that overwhelms the imaging for me... a BBC dip. It is clearly a voicing choice by Dynaudio and gives it the smooth laidback sound in the 1 to 2Khz range that the BBC determined is pleasing to many people. For me, it just sucks out the attack in the upper soprano range but again it is an admired trait by a lot of people.
The reason I said the 6L6 output tubes are an interesting paring is it may be the even-order harmonic distortion of the tubes makes that BBC dip seem fuller and more detailed which is something you might lose moving to a solid state amp. If you are in love with the sound you have but just need more oomph I think the clear answer would be a vintage McIntosh MC240. If your amp sounds like a typical valve amp with 6L6 output tubes the MC240 would be the quintessential replacement but I have no problem SOPM (spending other peoples money).

I like full, warm midrange. I like a polite, smooth top end. When I paired the S40s with class AB SS amps, vocals got way too lean and cymbal crashes and the top end of trumpets were too brittle. So, you are probably correct that the tube amp re-fills the mids. It definitely rounds off the top. I would like to try class A SS amps (Pass Labs INT-25) but that is not in the cards any time soon. Regardless, the little 6L6 amp sounds great with jazz and vocals. Soundstage and imaging are great. There is little low frequency impact and the accuracy lacks but that is a trade-off I am willing to make.

I almost mentioned how jazz lovers really seem to like the 6L6 output amps but didn't because I don't know anybody who listens to much jazz.
I look at speakers like ice cream flavors. No speaker is even close to perfect so it really comes down to what you prefer. The only thing I can't abide is speaker flaws that are a result of poor engineering vs a choice in voicing. Things like driver ringing, port resonances too close to the pass band, and poor integration at the crossover point(s). It is like Kieth Richards and (rock gods forgive me) Jimmy Page being "sloppy". Their slop is for a reason and intentional whereas my slop on a guitar is from being a hack. I'll pay to hear Richards and Page play, I'll pay someone like me to stop playing. My only issue with Dynaudio is they quite selling their raw drivers to the DIY community but luckily Scan Speak has a similar engineering ethos.
