It's been a long time since I've done this. My daughter has an iPhone (with cell line) that isn't working well. We have an old unused iPhone that she wants to replace her current one with. What's do I need to do to make the switch?

Which model is the old one?

In any case:
I'd reset the old one first to bring it to a "new" state.

Then, follow this link.
Apple link to moving to a new phone.

The link above shows the details, but basically here's what happens:

Back up the old one

Erase the "new" phone to factory defaults

Setup new phone from backup

Nothing is easy if you are using eSIM. If you still have a sim card, just move the card and you are done.

Power up the phone you want to transfer to and see what version of iOS it is running. You'll more than likely need to upgrade that before you can restore the other phone to it. So power on, connect to wifi and update the os to whatever version the other phone has. then reset all settings and put the phone you want to transfer to it next to each other and bluetooth should connect all do the transfer. You can do a backup and restore as well. Many ways to do it.
