Installing a recessed junction box in wooden soffit for flood lights?

I want to add another junction box to a corner of my house for more lighting in another area outside. I have a couple flood lights already and these have junction boxes (4" diameter I think) that are recessed into the wooden soffit, so I would like to have it match those. I can do all the wiring, but I never installed a recessed junction box like this before. I've installed old work junction boxes in sheet rock with that have the tabs that tighten to the back of the sheetrock as you tighten the screws.

Here are my questions for the OB electricians:

1. Is there a certain type of junction box (kinda like the old work sheetrock boxes) to use in my situation that will allow me to recess it into the soffit so that my flood light will mounted like the others?

Seems like this box would work

2. To cut out the hole...I'm guessing the easiest way would be to use a 4" hole saw blade?

Anything else important that I should know beforehand? Seems pretty straight forward. Cut out junction box hole under soffit. Mount junction box. Wire from existing junction box in attic to new junction box under soffit. Connect floodlight electrical wires and secure floodlight to soffit.

Pretty straight forward. I might look for a weather proof junction since it will be partially exposed. But other than that you should be good to go.

Do not cut your whole directly in the corner of the soffit where the two pieces angle together Cut it off to one side or the other not in the center. And you can use an octagon shaped cluster box and surface mount it if you choose to. The hole saw is 3 5/8

Thanks! I figured I'd have to mount it on one side or the other due to the piece of wood in the middle of the corner.

Do you happen to have an example or link of the box and mount you are referring to?

You can use the box that you showed from Home Depot. You will need a 3 5/8 hole saw to cut through the wood. Even if you can’t find the holesaw you can use a keyhole saw to cut it if you have to

Here ya go

Instructions for this box say to cut out a 4" hole

In the questions sections, someone stated for a 3/0 box it is normally a 3-5/8" hole...so which one is it?

Are those recessed? I found some weatherproof boxes, but they aren't recessed, just flush mounted on the back onto the soffit. Really looking for a recessed box to match the others.

Yes,the brown bakelite boxes are recessed. You might do better off with the box I showed you from Home Depot if you don’t mind it being mounted to the surface.

Is there any reason I shouldn't use this box below?

Carlon Old Work Box

Seems like that box would be the easiest way to mount it since it won't have much weight hanging from it since it will only be a basic floodlight.

That will work too. I just can’t tell you the actual size of the hole saw that the blue box uses. I think you use the same 3 5/8” hole saw

I'll just measure the diameter of the back of the box (the recessed part) and use that size, or the next closest size up. Someone in the comments mentioned they used a 4" hole saw and it fit just on the snug side though which I don't mind.
