iPad mini 4 help.

Hello,
I just purchased a used iPad mini 4 for my nephew to play games on while he travels. It was used but in mint condition.
The version is 15.8.4. It say's there are no updates available.
There are a few games that require an update to play. Is there a way to update it? I've tried searching and even reset the iPad to factory standards hoping it would update to the latest version when restarted. No luck.
Thank you in advance for any and all help.

Apple no longer supports the mini 4. IOS 15.8 is the latest software update it will take. You need to buy a newer iPad.

Glad it was only $40.
Just found out that Netflix and Hulu won't work either.
Thank you. Appreciate it.

Get the Kindle app. Buy him books

Try a Kindle Fire. Much cheaper, and plenty of time wasters. Outside of that, buy either a used iPad on eBay or set a price alert on Costco/Sams, and you can find a full sized iPad for $299 if the timing is right. The minis are always in high demand, pilots like to use them.
Depending on his age, he's probably mostly going to be on YouTube/Netflix anyway, so the tablet brand doesn't really matter.

Reading on a tablet is a joke. Kobo or Kindle, but that's not what OP asked for.
