I'll never understand how, with all the developers and Beta testers out there, such glaring bugs slip by and are released to the general public in the first place...

If you have been experiencing issues with wireless CarPlay in your vehicle lately, it was likely due to a software bug that has now been fixed.

What was the issue?

I didn’t have any problems in 3 different cars.

If it has a USB port you should be able to use a $40 dongle to make it wireless. My 2024 inexplicably didn’t have wireless either, even though my 22 before it did. It’s not perfect but good enough.

I heard those dongles were incredibly unreliable. If you have one you’d recommend im all ears.

If you saw as many vibe coders graduate college in the past few years as I have, you wouldn't be surprised.

I have a Kenwood radio in my 2012 truck that has Apple CarPlay. I had to update the firmware in my radio a few times over the years before it finally worked like it was supposed to. If something isn't working right, you may want to also check if there's a firmware update.

George, this is the one I have in my truck.

LINKy
To be fair, there are times when I do have to unplug it and restart it. Lag is just okay, no enough for it to interrupt phone calls but plenty enough to make it noticeable when watching videos. But for the price it’s held up pretty well.

Yeah makes sense. In spite of their new found education, I bet all those 60 year old West Virginia coal miners Dementia Joe told to learn how to Code really struggle getting the job done right in the real world.

So much for Crapple's DEI hires...

99% of the time these issues are with the crappy head units.

This is the one I bought last year. 2023 model to save a few bucks. There are two issues I have *every* day.
1) It boots quickly, but not quite fast enough for the Ford to give up looking for the source and default to AM radio (at high volume.) This happens in under ten seconds, so not huge. I just hit the podcast app or Spotify, and it picks it up and off I go.

2) Because it's plugged into accessory power, it stays powered on for a few minutes after I leave the car. This means when I get home, I have to disconnect it from CarPlay to connect to home wifi. Wifi OFF -> Wifi ON fixes it.

Occasionally, like once a month, it just won't see Carplay at all, and that's inevitably discovered when I pull into traffic leaving the gym or something. The easiest fix is to pull the device and plug it back in, or turn off the car and turn it back on.

Not perfect, but for $40 I didn't expect a whole lot. I've done the update process on it once, which is a bit of a pain since you have to pull it out of the garage to leave the car running, disconnect from one wifi network and manually connect to another, etc., but overall something I can deal with once or twice a year.

I did not have any issues with my wireless CarPlay until Sunday when I updated my phone to the "supposed update" that was supposed to fix the wireless bugs.

Now mine will connect and show on the screen, but wont play music thru the speakers. It plays on the phone...

Try changing the output. It's the little icon that looks like a broadcasting pyramid in Overcast, or a Bluetooth Icon w/ speaker. I have to use this every morning when switching from Carplay to the headphones connected to my phone. It will play through the phone, not through the connected headphones, 99.5% of the time until I switch it.
