work pc is Dell laptop with USB-C dongle for dual HDMI displays
want to hook up my M1-Max MacBook Pro to share displays and peripherals
bunch of 2X2 KVM switches on Amazon that look like they might work
anyone out there have a similar setup that they could recommend?

If you're willing to use adapters, you could use a VGA KVM.

pretty much willing to use anything that will work
would VGA be a better choice than DisplayPort or HDMI?

I use Synergy, lets you have one mouse/kb that can go between devices/screens. I have 3 different computers(3 screens) using one mouse/kb.

do you think it would work in the scenario i described (dual monitors w/different OS)

Are you running a device on each monitor and want to use the same mouse/kb? Then yes..
A little confused by your post on how you want this to work.

quote:no, i would like to run two devices (one Windows, one Mac OSX), each utilizing a dual monitor setup

the idea being that i would be able to switch between work and personal computers without each having to have separate kb/mouse/displays

Then yes, Synergy would work. I have a similar setup..
Monitor 1(work PC)
Monitor 2 (personal Mac)
Monitor 3 (home server)
One kb/mouse that controls all

I do not use one of these but have looked into them for my setup.
Ugreen makes one of the cheapest options out there at $150ish. Others are in the $300+ range.
Have you considered a simple docking station with USB-c support (single cable docking) and just transferring the “live” cable to the computer you want to use ? Would save you around $100 or so.

I'd use a a USB c hub that takes display port out and use a displayport KVM.
Mos if not all windows workstations only use display port out.

USB-C is just a size. Important to know what the port supports.
If one of the following, any dock will will work and usually handle charging (PD) needs also with same cable:
DP over USB (will say DP by port or have a pic of a screen)
Thunderbolt 3 or 4 (pic of bolt by port)
