Live OTA television through plex - HDHomerun?

I'd like to stream live TV from my OTA antenna to Plex. I have a Nvidia Shield Pro and currently have the OTA antenna straight to the living room TV. I'd like to stream straight to Plex, so that I can watch on other devices when I'm not home. I have no need for DVR, but would like to be able to tune to different channels on different devices.
What would be the best HDHomerun tuner(or any other brand) and any other equipment I would need to set up? I currently use IPTV through tivimate, but would like to stream that through plex too if it's possible (I'm happy with tivimate though).

Yes. HD home run works like a champ. DVR as well on plex. Easy to set up and use on the go as well

I think you need to pay for plex pass to have this option. But it's pretty simple to setup.

I have the HD Homerun duo which works pretty well with plex. What's also nice is that you don't have to actually use plex to watch (can stream directly from the app), but I find that overall it provides the best experience.
HDhomerun has a few options depending on how many different channels you'd want to watch at once.

Ok, so the only equipment I would need is the OTA antenna to the HDHomerun tuner to the Shield. I assume the Quatro model is my best bet for multiple devices?

I have a question for an Hdhomerun user:
Is the recording, when it is streamed on your local network, compressed and lower quality than as if it had been received OTA live on the television's tuner?

quote:I believe Plex records the stream straight off the tuner and puts it in a .ts container, though there is an option to transcode during the record to save disk space.

For live TV only you don't have to use plex or anything else. They have an app for many (but not all) platforms. Technically it also has a DLNA share, or maybe it's an SMB share with video files that are the live stream. Not elegant but is a way to watch stream.
The Roku version of the HDhomerun app never plays sound for me so I don't use it there. I've used the android app a little bit, and it's OK. Plex overall is a better experience, but I have a plex pass.

You need Plex to do the following:
- channel guide that spans a couple weeks that works for future recording
- access to your local tv channels anywhere in the world live or your recordings (try firing up YouTubeTV when you're on the road to watch your local NFL game and watch what happens)
- ability to remove commercials entirely or get a 'skip' button that appears at every commercial break
You can't do any of those things with the HD homerun app.

Hmm I tried this through the plex app on my phone while outside my home network and could not access the ota tuner.

I must’ve screwed something up before, it works now.

Question for the HDHomerun experts. I just got mine tonight and I have ATT Fiber and just use the ATT router to pass through to my old google Wi-Fi router.
I hooked the hdhomerun quatro up to my Google Wi-Fi router and no problems.
However, can/should I hook it up to my ATT router? Wondering if it would be faster for changing channels, loading channels, etc? Will the Plex app recognize it if it’s on the ATT router?
