Nest Cam 1st Gen - anyone here still use?

We've had 2 Nest Cams now (one indoor/one outdoor) for at least the last 5 years and I've always liked the interface, their simple behavior, etc. A few years ago, Google bought them and then started transitioning the new generation cams to the dreaded Google Home app. I learned that the hard way when I bought a new 2nd gen outdoor cam and could not install it with the original Nest app.
I'm looking online for some 1st gen cameras and have found them. I guess my question is this: Will I still be able to install new 1st gen cams with the original Nest app?
Thanks in advance. I know this is a pretty specific product question but just figured I'd ask just in case.

My parents were using some old Nest stuff for a while, including old Dropcams (pre Google acquisition) I think.
I think they got forced off the Nest app at some point and they were as unhappy as you about it.

I recently swapped out my Nest OG Doorbell camera and I thought Google was killing off the Nest App, eventually.
I know the Google app and Nest app were still both working as of 2 weeks ago. I am unsure if you can register "new" products to the Nest app though.
Honestly, this is one of end users frustrations with Google. They create so many products/applications only to throw them out a few years later. Why a company as large as google would retain 2 apps for YEARS after their acquisition of Nest is beyond me.

quote:M F'ing this. I have several Gen 1 cameras and had to add a new outdoor camera to my collection when we moved into a new house. The new outdoor camera only works with Google Home. Here's the part that pisses me off the most--I can access live views for all the cameras with Google Home but I can't access the event history directly from Google Home like you can with the Nest app. You have to open the app through an event notification to access the event history.
