OLED “Burn In” with 2023/2024 technology. Is it still a major factor?

We watch our TV a lot and usually host friends and family at the house. We watch movies, sports, tv shows, and the kids watch YouTube kids for cartoons and such. Occasionally we might fall asleep on the couch with the tv on. Is burn in something I should be concerned about? TIA

i cant keep up with what tv screen tech suffers burn-in these days.
best to not risk it and always have some type of screensaver kick in or turn it off when not in use.

as long as it isn't over 12 hours - nothing to worry about, at least with the newer LG models

Good unless you are a frequent news watcher.

NO they have protection built in. LG has an undetectable micro screen shift that prevents it.

RTINGS has been doing a long term test for burn in. They just posted their 10 month update.
LINK
They've been stress testing by watching CNN. If you do something like that or maybe ESPN all day, you might have a problem. I think for normal viewing like you've described it's not really anything to worry about.

Just had my OLED replaced for a different issue, hundreds and hundreds of hours gaming with HUDs up and zero burn in when they took it off the wall.
I'm sure if you watch cnbc 24/7, after 5 or 6 years it would burn in, but for a regular person, i think it's grossly overstated at this point.

Major? No but it does appear it is still possible but not the only concern. One of the most common problems these days is the middle area of the screen burning out/degrading in output.
Very common example you can find all over Reddit, AVSforums, etc.

the higher end G series of OLEDs from LG have a 5 year panel warranty. I'm not sure if the C line has it.

So if I get a G3, LG will cover Burn for 5 years??

I haven't read the fine print but I believe that to be the case

The Gs still have the same problem you see in the picture above. most of the photos on Reddit, AVS forums, etc. are LGs including the G series. They are avoiding burn-in but they are not avoiding burn-out.

if...and...but....most...maybe....
this is what gives people headaches on buying a TV with 73 different flavors of LED.

probably a very small percentage of buyers that are having these issues - that should be covered by the 5 year warranty

Yes it is primarily heavy users where oleds are failing and burning out. It is not a small number though. It is very common.

Someday we will get a perfect TV... Hopefully before I completely lose my eyesight.

I’d be more concerned about finding an oled panel without noticeable vertical banding than burn in tbh…assuming you aren’t a person that leaves news on 24/7, or games 24/7.
From everything I’ve researched, if you’re watching different kinds of media, and not leaving static images from one channel (like a news logo and ticker, or constantly have a gaming HUD present) you don’t really need to worry about burn in.

With modern TV tech, burn-in is not a legitimate concern anymore. You'll have other issues way before any type of burn-in

Not just modern TV tech, Never have had an issue with my Panasonic Plasma from 2010 and my Vizio OLED from 2020.
If I had to guess, burn-in is mostly a boogeyman made up by LCD TV sales departments.

Burn-in is very real, but it takes a scenario that most people will not come across. I have an LG B7 that has a pretty bad case from 100s hours of the same video game and not much else in between.
