Samsung OLED 4k vs Samsung Neo QLED 4k

Pretend I’m stupid. It won’t be hard.
These both look great on the store shelf. Is there a difference?
Should I be looking at 8k instead?

I'm pretty tech dumb too, but isn't OLED better than QLED? And I don't see a point in 8k unless the price is something close to the OLED.

OLED > QLED. Samsung called them QLED as a marketing plot when LG OLED came out. That way they could confuse consumers into thinking it was similar to OLED. QLED may have the same color filter as OLED but due to the backlighting of LEDs you will still get blooming and no perfect black like you do with OLED.

This is the story I got from the salesperson.
LG has a patent on OLED.
Samsung’s version is QLED.
But the LG patent just expired, so Samsung put that technology into its Neo Led.
Have no idea if that’s true or bullshite.

Go with the Neo one, miniLED is great.

Sony A80L OLED and don’t bother with others.

A QLED TV isn't the same display type as an OLED. Samsung does make their own OLED and LG makes their own QLED.
Samsung's top OLED is a QD-OLED. LG's top OLED is a MLA-OLED.
It's all sort of confusing and not worth getting in the weeds about. QLEDs aren't meant to confuse customers and they aren't a fake OLED either.
The benefits of a QLED is cheaper, brighter, less chance of image retention.
The benefits of a OLED is better motion, better black levels, infinite contrast.
Best generic advice is get the biggest TV you can afford. A larger screen is far more immersive. Even if the TV isn't quite as good, the flaws will eventually be forgotten about. (unless you're extremely picky and those tiny flaws will drive you crazy)

Before 2022, Samsung had no OLED tech. Their QLED is just LED. However in 2022, Samsung released their own OLED tech called QD-OLED. Most review sites rate Samsung QD-OLED better than LG OLED. It's better enough that Sony switched to QD-OLED panels in their flagship OLED model last year.
The Samsung S90C/S95C and Sony's upcoming A95L are this year's models using 2nd gen QD-OLED panels.

100% this.
OLED unquestionably produces a better image than qled/led/mini-led, etc.
It's also more expensive.
A good 85" qled is about the same cost as a 77" OLED.
I have an awesome 77" Sony OLED but would trade it in a heartbeat for a Samsung 85" mini led that likely has a lower MSRP.
If price is no object, get the biggest OLED that will fit in your space. If on a budget, get the biggest qled that fits.

Get an OLED.
LG C3 and Samsung S90C are what and what for best on the market. LG if you're a big movie/series guy (since it supports Dolby Vision), Samsung if you're gaming on it.

I have an Samsung 8k neo qled 75” TV, picture is outstanding makes everything look better. The Samsung Oled TVs look great too they are just not as bright

A lot of natural light the QLED will get brighter, OLED will perform better in dark scenes. Neo QLED has the brightness of QLED and also dimming zones to help with dark scenes. But not unlimited dining zones like an OLED

OLED is a better picture, but I think for the money the NQLED is at a really good price point.

OLED is the best. Neo QLED is catching up, but not the same.
Go with the OLED if you can swing it, but the QLED is okay too (and much better than older LED screens).

How important is 120hz vs 60 hz for watching sports?
