Switching email from Cox to Gmail

I'm in the process of getting rid of Cox internet (going with LIT) and have a question about the cox email i use.
I'm reading some places online Cox will give you 90 days to transfer everything before shutting your email down and some places it's not clear.
Anyone have experience getting rid of cox email/internet? Did they give you a grace period or was it shut down day 1 after cancelling.
This is the only cox account i have and when i cancel i will have zero cox accounts (no phone, tv, etc).

You need to call and confirm what their policy is for a grace period. Assuming this is for residential use...

I primarily used my ISP email for year and have worked of of it by using a gmail/microsoft email account. I'm a minimalist so my inbox usually only has maybe 10 emails max. How many messages do you have? Do you access it via webmail or do you have an email client on your computer you use? Should be an easy way to export emails from cox mail and import into your gmail.

I can import cox emails to gmail pretty easily i think.
I keep a very little emails in there. i'm just worried something tied to my cox account that i forget to change the password gets lost before i can change the email.

You generally have 90 days. Definitely not shut down immediately, but I’m not sure it’s 90 days.
If you have a family member that uses Cox, you can also transition the email to under their account. It’s a way to prolong the transition period.
For example, when I switched I rolled my email address over to my parents account.

Do you think I could transition my cox account to a friends cox account?
I know if i ask Cox that they will say no, but, when you did it what did they ask to transition it over?

It took about a year before Cox killed my email I had with them after I canceled service.

Good deal. Yeah, you need to find how many damn logins you may have associated to your cox email. Quick win, make a spreadsheet of all the stuff you login to with an email address and track your "change requests"....Long term, use a password management application and add all logins identified in previous sentence....
