Teenage son car gifts

My son is being gifted a 2011 Camaro for Christmas from my brother. We’d like to get him some accessories for the car as additional gifts to help “tech” it up. Any suggestions on a back up/front view camera, and other items that might be good additions?

Viofo.
Hardwire it so it will work when the car is parked.
I think a good front and rear dashcam is worth is weight in his especially with your kid driving a high profile car like a Camaro.

Portable Jump Starter.
Someone bought one for our son when he got his first car. We now have one in every family member's car.
Definitely get a carplay-compatible (or AndroidAuto) head unit. Hopefully it has a Double Din head unit in it already. You'll likely combine that with the backup camera as possibly a single purchase (if you go to an auto audio store), and they'll install all at once. You can PROBABLY install yourself, but steering wheel volume controls can sometimes present problems.

Dash cams are a must. A nice double din receiver is worth its weight in gold pay for a shop to install unless you know basic wiring.

they are as 'fun' as owning an android tablet that slows down on you after a year and has unexplainable issues all the time.
close your eyes and remember your last tablet experience and imagine that is the only way your son can play music in his car.
eta its like the boat-owner saying:
"the 2 best days in an aftermarket android HU owner's life are when its installed and the day its replaced with the original HU"

I don't know about the Android because I'm all Carplay... but I can't imagine life without Carplay (not to mention a nice fat backup camera). Just having Waze/Maps/etc.. on my screen is worth it alone, irregardless of the audio capabilities. I have zero issues with my head units with Carplay, though.
Since we've had the "good fortune" of purchasing a couple of used cars recently for teenagers (2006 Honda Element and 2010 Tacoma), I've gotten to experience "dark age" driving a bit over the last year. I'm never going back if I don't have to, and a "modern" head unit will be first upgrade for any vehicle I purchase without it.

Check Slickdeals. I remember seeing a Pioneer NEX receiver on sale recently.

like the poster above said, stick with namebrand like Pioneer and use crutchfield for their support.

Yes. That’s made for a single din, not a double din. So it’s going to not mount in flush… but if current receiver is single din, then that’s way to go.
