I bought an Insignia for my back patio. The remote continuously eats the batteries. I put new batteries in 9 days ago and when I turned it on this past Sunday it said the batteries were really low. It seems I am having to replace them every two weeks. Any ideas on how to fix this? I reached out to customer service and their phone line disconnects. The chat with best buy was useless. Thanks.

Are you using standard or rechargeable batteries? If the latter, some devices will read the voltage on rechargeables a little fricky and will almost immediately report that they are low. They actually aren't, but the alert is annoying.

Standard batteries. A lot of times they are dead when I go to turn it on.

I have literally the exact same issue on an Insignia TV I bought a few years ago. It sits outside 24/7 in the Louisiana heat and humidity and it used to not do this so I'm assuming it's just the nature of the heat.

I think the TV cost me about 150$ like 6 years ago, so I just accept it.

My remote stays indoors unless I am outside watching the TV.

The only thing I can think that might be happening is that some reason the TV and the remote are constantly communicating even when the TV is off. That's the only logical explanation I can think of as to why the remote always drains.
Mine does the same - no clue.

correct, the humidity is a BIG CLUE. you need to keep outside remotes IN THE HOUSE when you're not using them; likely a button is making contact or the dampness is causing a circuit to complete constantly which is killing your remote.

try bringing it inside for a few days and let it dry out and see if that helps (remove the batteries while you're doing this) or just buy a new remote and keep it inside.

depending on the tv you have, remotes are cheap and maybe not as 'cool' as the OEM one but i had the same thing happen with a roku remote on my back porch TV during a really humid period.

tl;dr its a bad idea to leave remotes out in the heat & humidity of the southeast. find a little basket or something near the door and always bring it in when you're done watching tv.

Agree. Extreme temps can drain batteries. Another option is to find a smart app to control the TV, although I too prefer using a remote so I understand the hesitation.

This was my first thought as well. Happens with my Samsung TV, so we have to "hide the remote" from the TV or it will randomly turn on at night or when we're not home.

Try taking the batteries out when not in use and see if it still burns through them that fast.

Could also be looking at a bad remote, and could try using a universal/replacement remote to see if they issue continues.

We had the same issue though it was a different tv remote. I ordered a generic though very similar remote via Amazon and the issue went away
