U-verse vs direct tv picture quality

So, I just had u-verse installed and cancelled direct tv (screw them). It seams like my HD is clearer. Am I making this up or it possible that this new setup is clearer?

I always thought that directv had the best picture quality
Maybe your resolution was on the wrong setting

I know that the reports basically showed that U-verse had by far the lowest bit-rate of TV providers, only 6mbit. Whereas DirecTV and dish was closer to 10-12mbit.
Last time we had u verse was about 5 years ago and it was considerably worse.
Perhaps they are using a different compression scheme.

My buddy has Uverse for TV/internet. From my admittedly limited experience seeing it and messing around with the guide, etc a little, I find it to be vastly inferior to either Comcast or Directv/AT&T. The picture seemed worse too. But to be fair, his living room TV is a 55" Vizio I think and I'm watching a Samsung 70" that definitely has something to do with it.
I just switched from Comcast in Houston to Directv/AT&T for TV and internet and I've been very impressed with both. Great picture, interface (guide and ondemand sections) internet speeds, all of it. I moved across town and decided to try Directv and was able to talk my way into a cheaper package for what I want. AT&T offers the fiber internet connection here, which is better I'm told. They claim 1000 Mbps. I average between 300-400 typically.

Everything I've read says that DIRECTV has the best picture quality as they have the highest bitrate.
I just switched from time warner to direct tv and really enjoy the interface.

If you have a fiber to the home connection, your streams double to 12 with Uverse.

How far away from the VRAD are you? Are you testing with a wired connection?

I've heard this but don't actually know if it's true. Do you have anywhere you can point me to? I have 1Gb fiber but didn't go with uverse tv because of this.

I've read about it online and talked to their technicians about it. Not much is available from them in that regard because they're trying to push DirecTV as much as possible.

DTV picture quality is much better than Uverse
it had to be a setting with either your TV or receiver
I work in the business and there are huge changes coming to Uverse TV that i cant really speak about. As others have mentioned, they will be doing away with it eventually. They already are not producing any newer boxes
The DIRECTV new receiver comes out in 2 weeks and its sweet.
7 tuners, two 4K streams, 2TB hard drive, built in wireless bridge.
DTV has invested heavy in 4k and will be announcing soon a ton of NCAA and NFL football games in 4k for this season only on the DIRECTV platform.

THey have a long way to go if they want to replace uverse and or directv with Directv Now.

They aren't. They asked the CEO that question last week and he flat out said DTV now isn't replacing anything and they are investing a ton of money into DIRECTV and it will be the main face of att video

Have you done a Uverse installation where it's FTTH?

I haven't physically done one but I've seen it. I have it at my house
1000 mb up and down

Is this going to be a faux 4K where they just upgrade the signal from ESPN, CBS, etc. or will those companies be recording the games in 4K as well so it's a true 4K?

Did they get TV? If so, did they get DirecTV or Uverse. The main reason I'm asking is to see if whether or not the picture quality improved compared to a Uverse installation done with copper.

No it shouldn't matter. The overall picture quality won't change on IPTV platform
The satellite signal is a much clearer signal

I think you're right. I just ditched Uverse TV for DirecTV (because ATT made me a good offer for new cell phones) and I have to say that I'm very disappointed in the picture quality compared to Uverse.

I had DirecTV and currently have Uverse. I think image quality on DirecTV is better.
UVerse is fine, I like it better than I ever liked Comcast (but it's been a while). Obviously there is no lag like DirecTV, but I don't think the picture is quite as good. I only really notice in sports.
I don't understand AT&T's intention with Uverse. As someone else noted, DirecTV Now doesn't work well enough to replace Uverse. But obviously AT&T is pushing people off of Uverse (although that seems to have slowed over the last year).
What about the thousands of people who can't get DirecTV? What's the alternative?
