Haven't purchased a new monitor in years, and never had an ultra wide.

In the market, any particular things I need to look out for for ultrawides?

Any "go-to's" in this space that offer great quality-price?

I don't need it for gaming or editing or anything. Just want the best monitor I can get for the "best" price.

I use it the computer mostly for work that requires multiple "screens". I like to have multiple screens for comparing different charts in my stock portfolio, and have kids that are starting to get to the age where they are needing a computer more for school work. So family basic on the computer use.

BenQ is a good brand. If you are just using it for web browsing, no need to spend $$$. 27" to 34" is a good size.

ETA: this light bar is worth every penny. no glare on screen and lights up the desk nicely.

I bought my wife this one and I have the Alienware version for gaming.

Dell 34 ultrawide

These have been fantastic monitors.

We both replace 2 large monitors with a single ultrawide.

I have an ultra wide in my home office. It’s super nice to have that extra width for some text/script apps. It makes code look cleaner to me. Same with wide data.
Bad for a lot of things though:
Screen sharing
Split text windows(compared to another monitor)
Tons of wasted space with multimedia.

i just recently bought this one. i've always just had two mismatching 20 inches.

amazon

i'm not a BIG gamer, but if i'm attached to a ridiculous call that i'm not actually participating in, i'm known to throw up a quick fortnite game. it's not a baller monitor or anything, but works.

i will say since i got it, i also attached 2x15.6 portable monitors to each side and have zoom/teams on one and outlook on the other. it's actually been really good to not miss emails, keep zoom up, and work on the main screen etc.

This is why I could never do ultrawide; I want to watch TV (from PC, not from a Roku stick stuck into an HDMI port) on one screen while full screen gaming on the other. Easy with two monitors.

I was going to recommend this one. can't believe it's in the $400s now. I have the non USB-C/KVM version of this and paid the same amount a couple of years ago

I've been using a 34" ultrawide OLED 1440p (Dell AW3423DW) for a couple years now and love it. I use it for both work, gaming etc. Never going back to regular LED or non ultrawide.

This looks like a solid option.

I could see that, non issue for my use though.

I have had the 49" Samsung Oddysey since it came out. Love it. Spreadsheet, email and Word doc side by side by side and going through blueprints on it is a dream.

I purchased an LG - UltraGear 45” OLED Model: 45GR95QE a couple years ago. It has been amazing. However, it was not cheap. I would imagine there is an updated model now.

I like this one, using it currently. Fair price, sometimes you can find for $350.

I have the Dell Thunderbolt Monitor and it is fantastic. I bought it to replace my dual monitor setup, that was annoying enough with my work laptop (MacBook Pro) when I had to reset it most days, and the monitors being uneven was slowly driving me insane. So I looked for a single monitor that can replace the thunderbolt hub and the dual 4K monitors. I also wanted the monitor to have a fast Ethernet connection for wired data and as many connections as possible for a simple audio interface. There were just a few that met my needs and this Dell was the best one I found. I have had it a year and am blown away by how satisfied I am with it. If you don’t need the kvm features, go with literally any other monitor.

Strongly recommend a monitor with USB C and kvm if you have multiple computers.

If you're going to do an ultrawide I would recommend going with a 38 or 40 inch

34 inch was too small for my needs and I think going above 40 might get into absurd territory

Currently using a 40 inch at work and it's great
