So I am going to put an indoor tv under a covered patio. I am not paying that price for an outdoor tv.
Any tips to make the TV last?

If it's in a spot where rain won't touch it, then it should be fine for a long time. Yeah humidity and dust might slowly degrade it, but I think the specialty outdoor TVs run around $1,600+, so you'd have to go through 8 or more $200 indoor TVs to match that.
They sell covers too, so if you go through long stretches where you don't use it, covering it up would go a long way to preserving it. Amazon has some, and there's other TV cover websites dedicated to them

I moved an old crappy flat screen out under our patio a couple years ago. I figured it would last a few months and I would have a good excuse to replace it. Guess who hasn’t bought a new tv since then. As long as everything is covered, they seem to do pretty good on a patio, even with our humidity.

I bought a TCL from Best Buy and they sold me a 3 year warranty for $20. I've never bought one before, but it covers the TV even if it is in heavy humidity. I've never recommended a warranty before, but I figured it was worth $20.

I put a 42" Sharp on my patio a few months ago and have experienced no problems:

Like others have said, as long as rain can't get on it you are good.
Just go with a cheap regular HD tv. I don't see much point in getting 4k outside.
If you really need to save an outlet, get a firetv/rokutv or get a one with 3.0 usb so you can just plug the firestick into the tv usb port.
I don't bother with a cover.

It’ll be fine. I put a cover from thecoverstore.com on mine at the suggestion of Chicken.

Thanks. Just ordered a Vogel tv mount to let me turn it 180 degrees in case I’m in the pool.
Any recs for a 43-50 in smart tv under 300?
Thinking another Samsung but would something cheaper. I have Hulu live and the router is about 10 ft away so it’s mainly to watch games

I have two cheap TVs outside for about a year now with no problems. I do cover them when they aren't in use so that humidity or dust won't degrade them.

Like others have said, keep it out of rain. Amazon sells some covers for ~$20.
Also another poster mentioned an extended warranty. This is what I do as well. You buy a low end tv from Best Buy and the 3yr extended warranty is like 30$. Cheap insurance.

They won't honor the warranty if they discover improper use that voids the warranty and placing the TV outside where humidity, dust, and insects can affect it will certainly void the warranty.

Several posters on this board have previously recommended Costco for the warranty + utilizing credit cards with extended warranty protection and/or squaretrade added on, and have been successful in getting replacements after outdoor use.
If you skip the paid add on warranty, you're still in pretty good shape with Costco's base + extended credit card protection with no extra out of pocket fee... If they refuse to replace it (unlikely) you still got a much lower price device than the outdoor specific models.

I have 2 TV's under my covered patio. They are totally protected from rain/wind/sunlight, so I don't have a TV cover for them.
One was a TCL from my sister in law and its worked great for a few years so I added another TCL last year. Cheap TV and if it goes out I will just replace with another cheapo set.

Get a canvas cover and it will be fine.

I have an indoor tv on my patio, exposed to the elements. It was a cheap one from Sams.
I use a water proof cover from thecoverstore.com and, I disconnect power when we won't use it for a while. Even if the tv is off, there is some power being used. So by disconnecting, there's less of a chance of moisture messing up the electronics.
I've had it outside for almost 3 years, even during tropical storms/hurricanes. No issues.
