What's the best antivirus software for a laptop?

I was using Avast for years but I'm tired of them constantly pushing other products and services on me and I don't really like the interface. I'd rather use something else.

Finger discipline. Don't click on sketchy shite. Today you shouldn't need anything more than what your OS already offers. IMO antivirus software has become malware itself. As you've already observed:

This, and install uBlock Origin on your browser(s) and turn on all of the filters.

This is what I use, but it's also for more than just the antivirus. I really like the Anti-Theft functionality to permit me to locate/lock/wipe devices I lose.
You also get a VPN, password manage (that I don't use), and other things like a file shredder.

I have been using Avast for about 20 years now. No issues. I just ignore all the add-ons they try to sell.

Ive used Avast and Norton. Now just use the product already included in the Pc. Windows Defender

if your ISP gives you a free McAfee subscription, that would be the best option. If not, bitdefender free is great and very unobtrusive.
