What's the reason Spotify podcasts can't stream through Sonos systems?

This has to be the most irritating thing in the world - an entire universe of content that just doesn't work through the most mainstream home audio system on the market.
Hopefully the expanded Prime Musicwill not have the same stupidity.

You can’t through Apple either. It used to have the podcast app but they removed it.

I've tried in the past via Spotify and it wouldn't connect but I tried this weekend and it did. Oddly, I listen to podcasts at 1.5 and it seemed to be playing at .5 speed.

Anything can be streamed to Sonos speakers, including podcasts.
Use Airplay 2.

Go into the Spotify app - click the current device button on the bottom right go the Sonos device you want to play (or the "Airplay or Bluetooth" listing).
The Sonos App navigation sucks anyway

Spotify in Sonos is only for music. You would need to Spotify connect to the Sonos speakers from your device. It is super easy.
In the Spotify app click the Spotify connect button at the bottom left corner. Then select the Sonos speakers.
OR
Add a service that includes podcasts for Sonos. For example, add Pocket Casts (which should do every podcast you care about except for Rogan).

I moved everything to plex and now its fine. I can play whatever the frick I WANT on sonos and every one of these tech streaming motherfrickers can eat a gigantic bag of over-ripe dicks.

This. My favorite podcast app (Overcast) has no integration with Sonos, but I can cast the stream to my Sonos speakers as well as a couple of my TVs.
Usually, this kind of activity is about data collection and monetization. Spotify (and many, many others) profits on being able to precisely track what you listen to, who you download, when you pause podcasts, etc. Letting Sonos act as a go between may interfere with the specific data that they want. It's gotten way worse in the past three years or so, but certain platforms are better than others. Hulu and Paramount+ are among the worst, but Pandora and Amazon Prime, as an example, don't care where you are, if you're using a VPN, etc. Paramount+ requires you to disable the built in ad-blockers on your browser to watch content (I have a subscription). Hulu demands your location (also pay for service), etc.

in other words; they crippled it on purpose.

Plex.
It is essentially a media library/player. You can take most smart TVs and "point" them to your Plex library and play stuff from it. It becomes a source the same basic way Apple Music, Pandora, Netflix, etc.
When you start out with Plex, you'll probably start with using it to stream playlists during parties on your TVs.
When you become a degenerate like me, you will have a NAS (small box with multiple hard drives in it) with hundreds of movies on it, hundreds of GB of music, and use Plex to watch your home media library from a hotel room on the other side of the planet.

Official guidance
Casting isn't supported on the earliest Sonos speakers (by which I mean ones manufactured before 2010 ish) if I recall correctly.

no this is some google petty bullshite where they removed sonos as a casting option when every single other music app on my phone and PC can. when they killed google play music, they 'accidently' killed sonos support and never brought it back.
