In the early stages of planning an early summer trip for 2025. I’m just curious if my itinerary idea would make sense and if any of you well traveled folk have spent any time in the region. The plan would be to fly into Barcelona. Spend 2-3 full days sightseeing and enjoying the city. Then we would take a regional airline over to Nice, France and spend 5ish days exploring the French Riviera region. Would plan on flying home out of Nice and also making that our base for exploring the area. If anyone has any info or feedback on this area it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm on the tail end of that trip right now. Barcelona / Nice / Florence. It was unseasonably hot. Definitely go early summer.

I prefer Madrid to Barcelona. Nice is great. Florence is a must.

If you are just wanting some beach time, you can get that in spades along the Spanish coastline. Easily reachable via train from Barcelona.

Spent some time in Nice with a day trip to Monaco. But last time in that neck of woods went up to Provence. It’s a beautiful stretch of coast and you can’t really go wrong. As an aside you should read the book everyone was so young about Gerald and Sara Murphy, two Americans who essentially invented summering in the south of France.

I think you might be the only person to ever say this in human history

Went by. Had a drink at the care outside the valet stand. Was expensive but good people watching. Great yachts in the harbor for some sort of rich people conclave where they divide up countries and decide who gets to start the next war. Highly recommend it.

I guess everyone has different priorities but in a lot of ways, Madrid is not a "tourist" city. First of all its MASSIVE, one of the most populous in Europe. Second, its not ancient like a lot of others filled with sights. Its cathedral was build in like the late 80s early 90s.

Last because of what it is, the locals really don't like tourists much, don't have time for them, aren't as friendly as other places, and don't speak a lot of english like other places do (and that is fine, it is their city, not ours)

They do have unreal food scene and 2 of the best museums in all of europe though, and a really good subway system

But there are some people on this board that love it. Everyone is different I guess
