Best way to get from Denver airport to Vail?

Heading to Vail for the first time in January but flying Southwest and they only go to Denver or steamboat springs. I was wondering what the best way to get from either of those airports to Vail would be. Any help is appreciated thanks

Rent a car
or
Hire a transport.

Yeah I should’ve said this. I didn’t want to rent a car because I’ve never driven in snow before. Is that a dumb fear to have?
Any particular transportation service that anyone would recommend?

There is a shuttle service called Epic Mountain Express I believe.

No. But its not really that hard/dangerous if you don't drive like an idiot.
Are you not from KC like your profile says?

Dumb? No, it’s understandable since you’ve never done it before. But the reality is driving in the snow isn’t hard. The interstates and highways will be completely clear unless you’re driving mid-blizzard, it’s really as simple as giving some extra room between you and the car in front of you.
A friend of mine recently went to Vail and called me with the exact same fear as you. He ended up renting a car and said it couldn’t have been easier.

Most of the time it's no problem. But it CAN be pretty bad at the Eisenhower tunnels if you get unlucky and get heavy snow. I used to live in Boulder and skied often; and had to put on chains on several trips. It snows a lot more at the tunnels than lower elevations. I've also had a woman from Texas who had never driven on snow panic and lock up her brakes and plow into my car at Breckenridge. If you don't need the car in Vail then I'd recommend taking a shuttle. I've done that for a Keystone trip and it was easy. But that was a long time ago so I can't recommend one.

Tell me you’ve never driven I-70 in Colorado in the snow without telling me you’ve never driven I-70 in Colorado in the snow.
It’s pretty awful sometimes. You don’t need or want a car in Vail. Take the Epic Mountain Express.

A line to Union Station.
Bustang from Union Station to Vail.

Same for me, end of January. Southwest. I’ve settled on Epic Mountain Express. We’re actually staying in Avon so I’m trying to figure out the best way to get to Vail at least 4 out of the 5 days. Might ride beaver creek one day.

It absolutely can be, and on days when it's bright and sunny in Denver and Boulder. It's called an upslope storm, Gulf moisture is pulled up into the higher elevations and it snows like a sonofabitch up there. Good for the skiing, bad for the driving. I've had to get out and push against the side of the car to keep it from sliding into the concrete barrier dividing the interstate
- the road is sloped enough that it's a problem when the road is really slick. People who've flown in a few times and rented a car with no problems really don't know the whole story.

I drove from Vancouver to Whistler and it was one of the most nerve racking experiences of my life. Never again.

Haven’t in a few years, but in past used Mountain Star Transportation to Beaver and Beck from DEN

It’s not ‘just’ driving in the snow. You’re potentially driving up a snowy road up to 12k feet and down to 9k feet, multiple times. You’re not driving around some flat city street with a little snow.
This.
There's a reason Vail Pass closes every time we get a decent storm.
AWD with winter tires and its not that bad. Its not any fun, but not that bad. The problem is, not everyone around you will have the right equipment.
Just take the bus.

I’m just curious what the ‘bus’ is? People act like driving in snow is bad, I’m guessing if it’s a legit bus it’s just going slow as shite. As in you could drive easily the same thing just go slow.
