Headed to Jackson Hole and Big Sky in July. Have plans to hike/visit both Yellowstone and Teton (plan to dedicate more time to Teton), but looking for suggestions of other cool stuff to see and do in the general area. Don’t mind driving a few hours away to see something cool. Kids are 8&11. We do some hiking but wouldn’t say that we are hug hikers. Also Which destination tour be better for white water rafting ? Thanks for any input.

I've only done the white water trip in Jackson. It was fun. I remember it ending right at the Idaho border. I also saw a motorcyclist split between 2 buses on a 2 lane highway where the average speed is 60 MPH. His buddy passed our bus first without issue and then when he tried to do it another bus was coming in the opposite direction and this guy probably shite himself, but survived it.

Jackson is a great town but can really be done in a day.
Casual restaurants we liked were Jackson Drug, The Local, Liberty Burger, Moo's Ice Cream. We hit all the shops and places around the square.

We rafted with Dave Hansen right in town. Had a great time. We went in May and the river was moving fast due to snow melt.

In Grand Teton, take the ferry across Jenny Lake and do the hike to Hidden Falls. It is easy and quick. You can add on Inspiration point as well but it adds some time. Go early in the AM as the line to board the ferry gets busy. In the Tetons just take your time driving around and stop at the pullouts to see different views of the peaks. Have a beer/pizza on the Roof at Dornan's at Moose junction. See the Chapel of Transfiguration. Visit the Mormon Row barns.

On the drive north of Teton Park and south of Yellowstone there is a pullout on the north end of Jackson Lake looking back south at the Tetons with the water in front. Absolutely gorgeous.

Yellowstone is its own animal, we were underwhelmed by Old Faithful. The Grand Canyon of YS was cool, as well as Hayden & Lamar Valley. Yellowstone has some great scenery, but I feel it is more about wildlife.

I've never been in July but hear the crowds and traffic can be pretty bad. My advice for everything you do is to start early. Drag the wife and kids out of bed and get going.

Thanks guys. Plan is to start early on park days. Another question, would you allocate more time to Jackson/Teton are or Big Sky. We have 10 nights to work with.

You can easily spend 3 days in Yellowstone and 2 days in the Tetons. You can do much more actually, those are minimum amounts.

At Tetons if you can only do one trail, do the Cascade Canyon trail. It is across from Jenny Lake.

Also go swimming in the lake. It is cold, but memorable.

We went white water rafting up in Gardiner, MT just outside North Yellowstone exit. Might be too far of a hike, but it was really a great trip on the Yellowstone River. I recommend the Flying Pig - https://www.flyingpigrafting.com/

Another long drive is out to Cody, WY. I would say go there if you want to see a Rodeo and pair that with the Chuck Wagon dinner. https://www.thecodycattlecompany.com/

Jackson/Teton I’d say.

Big Sky is cool, but one day on the mountain is enough. You can get in some good rafting, fly fishing, and horse riding nearby too.
