What is the cheapest ski resort out west? Main purpose of trip would be to solely ski. CO preferably.

-decent sized ski area
-flights would be out of ATL
-nightlife doesn’t have to be great or could be nonexistent

Looking for the experts opinions. Thanks.

There will be bigger experts than me, but Copper Mountain (CO), Heavenly at Lake Tahoe, and Park City can all be more affordable than other places.

I've never done it but alot of people here recommend staying in Frisco, CO and skiing Breck, Copper Mountain, and/or Keystone.

In colorado, loveland if you just want to ski. Get a 4-pack and call it a day.

Driving a little farther, monarch has some decent stuff, especially if you don't mind a little hiking, and a season pass is less than a couple days at a big resport.

Copper was a good suggestion though. Keystone or Breck also.

I have done this, if you aren't looking for an abundant night scene, this is the best option by far. Copper is a great affordable mountain. Breck is also about 15 min drive if you do want to try a night out on the town

Whitefish, MT or SLC. It is hard to beat SLC but to make it cheap you will be staying in the city which is a different vibe, world class skiing though in the cottonwoods. Whitefish is harder to get to but one of the last bastions of affordable ski in/out big mountain skiing.

If you are set on CO, stay in Frisco and ski Keystone. I think you can get a lift ticket there now for under $75 a day via the Epic day pass. Crested Butte would be another option but I am not sure what lodging is like there.

Loveland and Abasin would be another option if you are a decent skier, these are more ski areas than resorts. I guess it depends on what kind of vibe you are looking for.

Angel Fire New Mexico was fairly inexpensive last year. Flight to Abq from New Orleans about the same as to Denver. Easy 2 hour drive to Angel Fire.

Not much to do other than ski there.

I've always liked Breck the best personally. Not an expert though only been a few times.

Fly into Denver and ski @ Loveland. Very good and underrated skiing. There’s a solid Microtel right off I-70 nearby that can be had for prob less than 100$/night. There’s also a Groupon (or was) for cheap gear rental at a place called black diamond ski and cycle in nearby Georgetown. I can’t imagine you’d be able to ski much cheaper than what Mrs jkyle and I did the weekend we went this route.

I’d guess Monarch is the cheapest overall to put together a trip to CO. Salida is a great town and a short drive up to the mountain.

Crested Butte also has some pretty decent prices for on mountain lodging if you aren’t looking for something special. You wouldnt need a car if you fly into Gunnison and take the bus to town. A combo of epic local pass and buddy tickets might get you to that $100/day price point if you are going to ski 4 days.

Keystone used to have good deals for kids if you are bringing youngins.

Diamond Peak in Tahoe is a good time as well on a good snow year.

Cheapest trip I’ve ever done is to Wolf Creek, CO. Found cheap SW flights to Albuquerque and got a cheap rental and stayed in South Fork. Place I stayed at had discounted lift tickets(I think $50 a day). There is hardly anything in South Fork but you could stay on the other side of the pass in Pagosa Springs if you need restaurants but the pass on that side closes more often during a snowstorm.

Loveland - not just cheapest but one of my favorites in CO. Not huge but plenty for 2-3 days. Easy to access from DEN. The view from the top of Lift 9 straddling the Divide is amazing. Stay in Dillon or Georgetown.

Don't discount Utah if you want to ski. Snowbasin, Alta, Snowbird and Powder Mountain. Always Deer Valley if you want to be bougie.

It was embarrassing how cheap we got to ski in Utah when my kid was a student there. While I wasn’t the biggest skiing fan, I do miss going out there.

I’ve stayed in Silverthorne and done Breck and Vail from there. Lodging was very affordable. Getting Epic Day passes is much more affordable than a lift ticket. My 5 day pass for next season is $430 or $86/day at the Vail resorts.
