Couples trip for around 4 or 5 days. Can someone compare?

Neither. Playa Del Carmen is better than both.

Ok. Tell me about Playa deal Carmen. What are the hotels? All inclusive?

I have been to both and would go back Costa Rica over Cabo.

I really like the town of Cabo, compact, really good food and good night life. The water looks good but you can only swim in one location due to currents. The sand is also pretty coarse.

Cabo is nice as you have drier pacific type weather.

Costa Rica x 4
Cabo has rough cool water on the Pacific side and is out at the end of the Baja California peninsula all by itself. For hardcore blue water fishing, this might be a decision but for a couples vacation it's Costa Rica hands-down.
The Pacific Coast of CR is your destination. I'd fly into San Jose (the capital of CR) and then fly from the Airport there on Sansa* (little plane) to Quepos. See Manuel Antonio National Park.

What time of the year you planning to go? CR has a rainy season making travel a messy in some areas if you want to rent a car and drive yourself.

Jan. - April is definitely the best time to go to Costa Rica but the rainy season isn't as bad as people think. And the road from San Jose down to the Pacific coast (ie Jaco, Quepos) is a main, paved road in good shape. I've driven all over Costa Rica and never had a problem with roads in the rain. But definitely have some sort of GPS, the roads are not well marked at all.

If they wanted to head Monteverde area to see cloud forest the roads are not paved so the rain can make things messy and quite bumpy. The roads up the mountain are no joke they are wide at least. We had a great time and rented a 4WD Hyundai Santa Fe not one of the little Roller skate cars.

Playa Del Carmen is now the fastest-growing town/city in all of Mexico, sadly it is not the quaint town it was just a few years ago.
