Eleuthera or Exuma?

Family of four. Kids are 15 and 12. Is there that much of a difference in one over the other? Should I just pick one and start planning?

I’m interested in this also. Will be following this thread.

Eleuthera is bigger, more developed and has options beyond what Elxuma offers. Mainly, Eleuthera has Harbor Island and Spanish Wells nearby. HI is upscale with elevated dining options.
Exuma is less developed. There are some nice houses and some resorts. It is better explored in a boat because it is more of an island chain than one continuous island that can be traversed by road.
Both are great but it depends on what you want. If you want more amenities and more upscale options, Go to Eleuthera. If you want a chill island vibe where you make your own fun, go exuma.

I don’t know about Eleuthera. I have been to Exuma a couple times. It seems like a good family place to me. Safe, beautiful beaches. No real extreme party scene. Cool excursions available.
I would bring young kids there.

What kind of activities do your kids like to do?
Eleuthera is definitely an "I completely unplugged while I was on vacation." destination.
I just spent 2 weeks on Spanish Wells (kids 18 and 13). I've been to Eleuthera 6 other times. Spanish Wells gave us exactly what we wanted -- lots of reef fishing, free diving/spear fishing lobster and fish, and exploring surrounding islands/cays. Only problem with Spanish Wells, is when there is rough weather, it kind of shuts you down from activities. Both of the kids absolutely got hooked on free diving and spear fishing.
If you're on Eleuthera, you can always drive north or south (depending where you are staying) and find some sunshine and something to explore.
I am unfamiliar with Exuma, never been there. I have been to Andros many times. If your kids want to try Scuba, take them to Small Hope Bay on Andros. All of my kids are now Open Water certified and avid divers. If your kids like the water, I highly recommend getting them some scuba time -- they are the perfect age to introduce them to it.

Have only been to Exuma but I can say that it is a very peaceful, tranquil place. Days there are best spent on the boat exploring Elizabeth Harbour. Rent a little Boston Whaler from Minn's and find your own little beach somewhere. Exuma Watersports does a great tour with the pigs, nurse sharks, iguanas, etc with lunch at Staniel Cay.
I think Exuma is a very low-stress place and really enjoyed our trip there. I was looking at Eleuthera for our next Bahamas trip to compare for myself.

I’ve done Harbour Island once and Exumas twice. While HI was awesome for me it’s clearly Exumas. Getting on a boat and exploring around there is amazing.

There is no place better than Exuma if you can operate or charter a small boat.
But Eleuthera is increcible too, so you can't go wrong with either choice.
