Ristorante Natalino is very good.

Good museum recommendations above.

The picture postcard view of Florence is from Piaza Michelangelo which is a little hike up the hill from the city center.
From there, climb a few hundred yards further up the hill to the church of San Miniato Beautiful marble interior and the view of Florence is at least as good as the view from Piazza Michelangelo with none of the crowds.

Do servers at most of these restaurants all speak english or can I expect a big language barrier?

Just point at the menu baw. You probably can't pronounce the food right anyway
