Is Excellence Club worth it? Have you done it with and without to compare?

I stayed at the Beloved (adults only) Playa Mujeres. I think it was a great experience. Tip the guy bringing you beer $100 the day you get there, and that dude will have you stocked on the beach well before you leave your room, umbrella reserved, etc.

We splurged a little and got ocean facing rooms with jacuzzi in/attached to the room. We had bottles of name brand liquor (full size) already in the room when we got there. If all you drink is bourbon, tell them, and they'll remove everything else and stock you with bourbon. Great service.

One caveat that I picked up on. We spent a bit more and didn't get the cheapest tiers of rooms. They certainly have rooms that are like regular hotel rooms with no views, which is where most of the younger couples seemed to be staying.

The other Caribbean all inclusive was on the west side of Costa Rica, which was nice, but I didn't like as much as Beloved. They were different kids of all inclusive, but Beloved didn't have the problem of certain restaurants being closed at odd times, or food stations that seemed to be constantly shuttered like I did in Costa Rica.

We did Excellence Club at Playa Mujeres last year and are doing it again for Excellence Riviera Cancun this year. The main thing for us was access to Magna, the club restaurant. We absolutely loved eating breakfast there, and had two dinners there as well. Great service, ambiance and food.

We also appreciated the service at the beach in the club section although it looked like the regular section was just as nice and the service is honestly good throughout the resort. I’m not sure this answer helps much but all the husbands insisted we do Club again for Magna access.

No, not at all.

If you want privacy and seclusion don't go to an AI. You can save thousands by renting something in Mexico, Costa Rica, etc. and have a beach all to yourselves.

They are selling you the perception of privacy, luxury and upgrades but it's much more of an idea than anything else...you're still at an AI and if privacy and seclusion is what you desire, just avoid the AI.

I don’t even think they’re selling you probably when like half of the resort is EC.

Didn't want to waste a new thread on this --

Anyone who has been to Excellence can give some insight on the private airport transfer?

We've filled out the "contact us" form on the airport transfer page twice, with no response. I called the US phone number yesterday and collectively waited on hold for an hour. When someone finally was able to speak with me, they said that because we booked 7 nights private transfer is free and I just need to email the address at the bottom of my confirmation email with my flight info.

I did that and requested they reply with confirmation and am waiting to hear back still.

I just don't want to be stuck in Cancun with no ride to my hotel

If this falls through, luckily there are 1,000 cabbies standing outside the exit at the airport wanting to take you.

That was about as stressed as I’ve been in a long time with this throng of people yelling and trying to get your attention.

Where I stayed, they had private airport transfer as well.. now the trick was I had to basically find a needle in a haystack of finding the specific guy wearing a blue shirt and red hat holding an iPad.

It felt like I was on the amazing race or something.

I’ve never had any issues with the free transfer they provide, or the communication with them ahead of time. Seasons is the company they use. They’re usually quick to reply. Certainly don’t count on them until you get a confirmation, but they’re very reliable once that’s done.

I have had great AI experiences but am interested in this. What about access to mixed drinks on the beach?

We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres last year with a large group. I believe we were the only couple that didn't stay in Excellence club. The only thing we missed was access to Magna as we ended up hanging out in the club pool for a bit anyway (very few people in it). From our view, the biggest upside to club level was that their buildings were the ones along the beach. We didn't feel like we missed out on anything as all the restaurants are top notch for AI's and drink service is excellent at all pools and beach areas.

I meant if not staying AI. We just lay on the beach and drink all day, are their drinks for sell at the beaches available at the non AI locations?

No, i get that, sorry I actually stayed there last year.

I was getting at, it was said earlier, that AI is not the way to go. I was wondering if you coudld have similar experience (as far as relaxing on the beach with readily available drinks) at a non-AI resort. I understand that I would have to eat at restaurants, more concerned about the drink aspect.

Gotcha. Well that would probably just be on a resort by resort basis.
