Need a simple room for 2 for a weeknight in the area, anything anyone recommends or says we need to steer clear of. I'm not overly picky. Thanks

That area has awesome, reasonably priced AirBnb’s 5-30 minutes from town. I highly recommend doing one of those.

VRBO called In Town Villa's
In Town Villa's Suite 2
We've stayed at this place on Main St. Walking distance to a lot of stuff then drive to the Winerys and Garrison Brothers Distillery. It's very nice and is upstairs from the shops. There is a sister Suite also if you have a friend that goes.
Highly recommend the Garrison Brothers tour even if you don't drink bourbon. Also there is an awesome karaoke bar walking distance from this VRBO.

We always stay at the Inn On Baron's Creek. Also the 290 Bus pickup is there.

Least expensive place you can find. Plenty of things to do so GET out of your room and Geaux see what's out there. Fredericksburg Inn & Suites was nice last time we were there. Make a reservation at The Cabernet Grill. Get the Country Fried Rib Eye. Thank me later. Have fun!

don't know why you're getting downvotes, but HI is a good place to stay at a good location. Skip the free breakfast.

Stayed at Itz Inn in 2020. Top room on the front. It's next to Hondo's. Wasn't too bad.

Stayed at the Trueheart which was pretty nice.

Cabins on a canyon ridgeline
I prefer the “Woods Cabin.”
Cooler, and quite beautiful imho.
The family that owns / runs it were incredibly nice as well.
On the way out there (15-20 minutes) you will pass these two places to eat.
Bankersmith
Which has amazing brisket.
And this place has an amazing burger (supposedly the best in Texas)…if it’s still open.
Alamo Springs
Lastly, the bat caves are not far from Alamo Springs:
Old tunnel state park
