The Spot on the seawall is owned by an LSU family. Cold beer and pretty good food.

When we go to the island we rent a house on the beach. We also bring our dogs and let them run in the surf. We also bring food we cook/grill. Just a chill weekend next to the water. I've been to The Spot and it is a good place to have a drink. Gaidos is good for dinner if you decide not to cook. Generally we let our boys go to the Pleasure Pier and we just hang on the deck. Moody Gardens is a nice place to spend a few hours. But like I said we just chill.

Pre-covid they had a cart track and arcade that we took the kids to that they enjoyed. Also have a couple water slides but we never stopped there. The Strand has a couple decent places that you can grab a drink at or buy things. It’s something different when you get tired of the beach.

Schlitterbahn is a good cool off spot. May be crowded but a good place to escape the heat if the beach becomes too much.

Vargas Cut and Catch is one of my favorite restaurants in all of Texas. They also own Rudy and Paco's across the street which is excellent as well. They've got Japanese prime beef for a decent price.

Vintage Crown michelada bar on 23rd Street just down from the Tremont House hotel is worth a stop for sure.

I went last year for labor day and even though it was partially shut down it was still a good time.
