Good halfway point to stop while driving to Disney

We are driving to Disney World next month from Lafayette and want to break the trip up into 2 drives so the kids aren't in the car for one straight shot... What is the best city to stop in? Was thinking Pensacola, but that is a little less than half way... Was also thinking Tallahassee but wasn't sure if that was a good place to get a hotel for a night.
TIA
TIA

We have done this. Right off the interstate.
The drive from Pensacola to Tallahassee is the cure for insomnia.

Stopped in Tallahassee last year on the way to Universal. Got to show my boy FSU's stadium. Time before that, stayed over night in Lake City, which that only left a few hour drive to Disney.

When we drive down from a little north of Atl we like to stay in Ocala. Place right off the interstate. Then you are only like an hour from Disney. We wake up early drive in start checkin then go to Disney Springs.
I know that’s different then what you said your plan is. But in my experience I’ve always enjoyed knocking the drive out as much as possible instead of planning a stop and being like “man I could have driven three further hours today”

Hampton in Tallahassee is where we stay.

We're driving from alexandria la in June for a week trip to universal. I booked a little Days Inn in Madison, Florida. It's about an hr past tallahassee.. I wanted to knock most of the drive out on the way there. That'll leave just under 3 hrs from Madison.
For the record I know nothing about Madison, FL as this will be my first time making this drive. It is a small town in Florida so it might be a crystal meth den full of Hills Have Eyes lookin Floridians. Fingers crossed.

We have stayed in Dafuniak Springs, Tallahassee, and Lake City. Depends on how early you want to get to DW on day 2. They are about 6, 4, and 2 hours from DW.

Tallahassee is a no brainer. Good exit with lots of food options and hotels right near the interstate.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is what my wife and I decided to go with.

Another one for Tallahassee or Lake City. Whatever you do, just get into the Eastern Time Zone.

Tallahassee as well
You need the rest once you hit I-75
That stretch is the most dangerous especially when you are tired of being on the road

We were the same, but we pushed on to Clermont both times we went. It was about 30 minutes to the WDW gates from Clermont. First time we had reservations in Ocala, but got there at like 2:30, and decided to switch reservations to Clermont. That worked out so well, we did it the second time we went.
We were driving from Birmingham though, which I'm guessing is a lot closer than Lafayette though.

I've always wanted to check out Silver Springs glass bottom boats and the local wild monkey population..

Hundreds of rhesus macaque monkeys have lived near the Silver Springs tourist attraction at Ocala, Florida, since the 1930s. ... Linda told us that, according to local legend, rhesus monkeys had been brought to the area to enliven the set of the movie Tarzan Finds a Son!, which was filmed at Silver Springs in March 1939.

We are driving to Disney from BR in late June. The plan is to wake up early and leave around 3 a.m. and drive all the way through. Not sure how it will go with a 2 year old.

Done this a few times and we stay at the Best Western Plus Tallahassee North location. Right next to the interstate, room is comfortable, decent continental breakfast. Doing this for our next trip mid June of this year.

On paper you see a ten hour non-stop drive. In reality.... breakfast, lunch, gas, potty breaks, crying I'm tired and want to get out. It gets stretched out way longer than you think.

Yep, was always a full 12 hour drive for us. Throw in a wreck, and it quickly turns to 13+ hours.

Luckily my kids are pretty good long-drive passengers. We typically do one or two 10+ hour drives a year.
The key for us is leaving around 1AM and being a good bit into the trip by the time they wake up. I am hoping to make it to Pensacola before they wake up. We can stop for breakfast and a bathroom break there before getting on the road for another 4-5 hours without stopping

Yeah, I'm anticipating several stops. If we get to Orlando around 4 p.m., 5 at the latest, I'll be happy.

Have any of yall ever heard of madison , Florida? That's where I booked. Days Inn had good reviews and was dirt cheap. Didn't research the area that much other than the crime rate which wasn't bad. Lol.
