Hilton Honors MyWay Benefits

not sure if this has been discussed, i didn't see it on the first two pages. but i got this email from hilton rgarding their breakfast. doesn't impact embassy which is where i like to stay at times.
i assume this is permanent moving forward? not sure why now, especially when the "pandemic" has run its course in most people's minds.
the daily "credit" at doubletree and hilton is certainly less than what a typical breakfast charge is.

Starting in early July through the end of 2021, we’ll be offering Gold and Diamond members a Daily Food & Beverage Credit as part of the Hilton Honors MyWay benefits, in place of the current complimentary Continental Breakfast benefit.
quote:
Here’s what that means for you:
You can use the credit towards eligible food and beverage purchases that are charged to your room, any time of day, at designated outlets throughout the property.
You and up to one additional guest registered to the same room will each receive the daily credit.
The credit will be provided for each night of your stay at hotel brands in the U.S. where you currently receive complimentary Continental Breakfast.

The Daily Food & Beverage Credit will be applied automatically to your bill for any eligible purchases charged to your room prior to checkout.
Gold members can choose to receive the Daily Food & Beverage Credit or Bonus Points as part of the Hilton Honors MyWay benefits. Diamond members will receive both the Daily Food & Beverage Credit and 1,000 Bonus Points at all brands listed above except for Hilton Garden Inn, where Diamond members can choose between the credit or 750 Bonus Points. Visit your MyWay profile to select your preference before your next stay.
Happy travels,
Hilton Honors

That's my biggest issue with the whole thing. Give me a credit and then charge me more than the credit for breakfast. Get the frick outta here.
I've already had my doubts about keeping my Diamond status with Hilton because of how easy it is to get it (you can get it through a CC spend for God's sakes). Now, I'm even more likely to look at Bonvoy and IHG Rewards for booking my business travel.

Hilton rewards went south a few years back. Switched to Marriott Bonvoy and have never looked back.

Are they still doing lifetime Diamond for people with 10 years or more of Diamond status?

Yes, it takes 10 consecutive years of Diamond status and 2,000 nights stayed. Or something close to that.

Been an IHG member for 29 years and am Platinum Elite. To me it seems like the quality of their properties is going downhill and the number of points required to stay in the shabby properties is only increasing.

My MIL (no pics) retired from IHG corporate several years back. She was in charge of setting up the network connections to the new properties. I was Platinum Elite while she worked there. When she retired, I switched to Hilton for many of the same reasons you mentioned above.
But, I will say that seems to be true for all hotel chains. I like Marriott, but damn, they want a mint to stay there. Our corporate allowance for hotels is $150/night (plus taxes) and it's hard to find anything other than a Fairfield (their bottom end hotel) for that price.

Interesting. I never have that problem in TX when we travel. I always find deals at Marriott.
We stayed in the Fayetteville area two weeks ago at a brand new Springhill Suites and it was $99 a night. Free breakfast and nice gym

We use IHG primarily for work and Hilton honors as a secondary. I like IHG better but Hilton honors isn’t that bad. That diamond parking is nice

The set aside diamond parking is the best perk Hilton offers. But if you ain’t there before 600, you ain’t getting a space. Fills up quickly.

While I certainly agree with this, if all you want is say a muffin and coffee it works for that also. So it may give a lot of people more options? I don't know the answer.

Typical breakfast charge does not equal continental breakfast.

Sure, but all this is doing is allowing Hilton to advertise "free breakfast" to compete with everyone else that offers a free breakfast.
If the only breakfast offered is more than the $12 credit they offer, that's pretty terrible. If its a larger hotel with a coffee bar, sit down restaurant, and other options that's one thing.

My biggest issue is they used to give two free breakfast coupons if you had two adults in a room. But now it's a flat 12$/day and it doesn't rollover (meaning if you stay 3 nights, you can't use all 36$ in one day).
