Likely during Mardi Gras.
Any suggestions?
I’ve heard Hot Springs itself can be a little touristy so preferably something away from that but within driving distance

Lake Catherine area would be my first choice. Lake Ouachita is great too but farther.

The house we stayed at back in July was perfect, but has since been taken off Airbnb... Are you looking for something on the water? Airbnb type house or state park type cabin? From my experience, Hot Springs has more lake houses and condos than cabins on Lake Hamilton. Never stayed on Lake Catherine, but went hiking at the state park there and the park cabins didn't seem too bad.

We go every year right before my son starts school. We've stayed at various houses on Lake Hamilton; either off of Lookout Point Rd. or Long Island Drive. You are off the main drag (Hwy 7) but close enough to grab some groceries, etc. Pretty much every home will have a private dock and there are many places to rent boats. I haven't found a place that rents jet skis but there may be some. We bring our kayak's and SUPS as the weekdays the boat traffic is pretty thin. On weekends the boat traffic picks up quite a bit, but again, this is during the late August time frame. We've found all of our rentals on vrbo.

We're looking for a woodsy cabin-type experience.
Since it'll be cold we won't really be using the lake at all so we thought it would be better to be around trees and a little more isolated.

I saw this thread before we went to Hot Springs last week and I just wanted to come and post my recommendations.
We stayed at The Hot springs Treehouses and I can not recommend them enough. It was just far enough from downtown (10-12 minutes, depending on how long you stop to check out the scenery on the way down). The hosts are are wonderful; nothing was left undone.
I happened to find them by chance just searching on AirBnb. I plan on going back.
