Hotels.com - App has far better deals for some reason

For a while now, Hotels.com has been pushing users to reserve rooms through the app instead of the browser. I don't love this because sometimes I want to do research on the location, amenities, etc... and that's hard to do on a small screen, especially when my laptop is right in front of me.
But wow are the deals better. Sometimes the rewards cash goes from $2-5/night to $20-40 per night. That's huge.
Any idea why this is that they push you to the app and not the browser?

Easier to track you without having to pay a data broker to see that you've got another browser window on Marriott dot com open while you're on ShitThirdPartyAgencyBookingTool dot com. They can track every scroll, click, etc. in the app for free. It's the same reason IG, Reddit, etc., all want you in their app, not in a browser (even on mobile) which may restrict their cross site collection of data in any way.
