Is a 40 minute layover for an international flight doable in Houston?

Is this a set up for a missed flight?
Crazy thing is if I book from Houston to AMS it's more than MSY.

Probably leaving out of the international terminal D. Pretty much the same chance as any other domestic flight in different terminals. Would be much worse if you only had 40 minutes the other way trying to get back in the US.

It’s doable with no delays. Any delay out of MSY or into IAH and you’re toast. I personally wouldn’t do it, but to each his own. Can’t get on an earlier MSY-IAH flight?

Another thing to consider, that flight is not 1h26m.. moreso about 1h10m gate to gate
However it still has to leave on time
I wouldn't risk it to get stuck in Houston, 5 hours from where you started. Now if it was Amsterdam

If you delay out of MSY, have them reroute you MSY-IAD-AMS or MSY-EWR-AMS

You’ll land in E or C and might have to change terminals to D if flying KLM. If there are no delays you should be able to make it, but it will be very close.
I’d get an earlier flight and go have a few beers for the overnighter.

Ha. Found this same itinerary for $30 more that gets to Houston with a 3 hour layover. I hate layovers longer than 2 hours. But missed flights that turn into multi trip layovers are the worst.

This. 1:26 is the block time not the flight time. United pads their block time for more favorable delay reporting. Flight time is like 46 minutes MSY-IAH. You'd probably end up with closer to 1 hour layover which is usually fine at IAH.

I wouldn’t, they usually close the aircraft doors about 30 mins before departure for long haul international. I would never book anything less than a 1.5 hour connection for long haul but that’s just me.

I’ve done it before. It worked out well for me on that trip but a couple of times I’ve flown long haul flights with very short connection times where I made it but checked bag’s didn’t

Yes, as long as original is on time.
Can walk C/D/E terminals within 10min. I'd assume the 737 will go into C terminal and then you can walk through E to get to D (screw the tram)
Hell, I did a 40 min layover HOU to SF and SF to HKG.

You’ll again be at your Waterloo.

Have a good trip!

Nowadays anything less than an hour isn’t worth it.

This. I don't know why you'd risk it, you could very easily get stuck in town and lose a whole day of your trip on an international flight.
International flights start boarding an hour prior to departure, so you need to be at the gate at least before that. I understand you don't have to, but its just not worth the stress of starting a big trip out by not getting there 2-3 hours early.
ETA: I'm by no means someone that stresses about this but I just returned from an international trip and parts of it were chaos. Gotta add plenty of time these days.

I flew out of and into George Bush last weekend. Just a heads up, one of the trams was down. It took 20 mins to get from D to B.

No delays and you should be fine. Not really sure it matters that it’s an international flight. If the first flight is on time you won’t have any issues. If not you’ll be running

Had a 1 hour connection

You can skip it, but don't do this very often, they will ban you.
